Face readers everywhere have one good reason to thank Condoleezza Rice.  She’s the most prominent newsmaker in American life who combines huge cheeks with a relatively slender body.  Thank you, Condi.  Through your appearance, you help to debunk the widespread myth that cheeks above equate to cheeks below.  Or, to put it more bluntly, that large cheeks means that a person is fat.

Instead, for at least 3,000 years, physiognomists have interpreted large cheeks as a gift for power.  And both the photos selected here for you to see will reveal an interesting quirk about Rice.  This is the official photo of America’s Secretary of State while this alternate photo shows her without all the airbrushing.    

I've gotten a lot of requests to read Condi, and as a service to you, my Zine readers, I present her to you here.  Unfortunately, it brings me no great pleasure to describe Ms. Rice.  Still, as an exercise in deeper perception, it's worth the effort. 

On the other hand, if you, like me, would rather read a more pleasant commentary, consider yourself warned to skip to a different section of this issue. 

So, let's take a deep breath and continue.   

Notice how much larger her right cheek is than her left?  (Face readers, remember that to see any face other than your own in the mirror, you must cross over mentally to tell right from left. It may help to pretend you are shaking hands.)

President Nixon had something similar.  That whopper cheek on the right means that public power matters way more than power in private life.  So if President Bush were really her husband (as Condi once referred to him by an embarrassing slip of the tongue), she might be less of a cheerleader for him.

Before continuing with my reading of her face, why not do your own?  What do you find most noteworthy in a face full of very’s?           

VERY MUCH HER OWN PERSON

If you’ve read The Power of Face Reading or my advanced face reading book, Wrinkles Are God's Makeup, you’ll remember the rule that VERY = VERY.  Physical extremes correspond to inner extremes.  Condi appears to be one of the few politicians left in America who believes that we were completely justified in going to war with Iraq.  So you might expect to find many VERYs on her face.  Certainly, they’re easier to find than Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction.

Let’s start with her VERY angled eyebrows, suggesting a highly detached observer who isn’t shy about inserting her personal interpretations into political facts.  Nor is she shy about controversy and conflict.

The potential challenge is best seen in conjunction with a strong chin characteristic.   Notice Ms. Rice’s VERY straight chin.  This suggests decisions based on principle, and a possible difficulty with thinking outside her own ideology.  Back at those eyebrows, Condoleezza has a tendency toward strong belief, which could exacerbate a tendency to interpret events in a highly idiosyncratic manner.

Extreme starter eyebrows are another VERY.  Each brow starts strong, close to the nose, and then tapers dramatically.  This indicates creativity for starting new projects, new alliances, new negotiations.  But the longer any of these attempts takes to manifest, the likelihood of success fades, because Rice’s interest shifts elsewhere.  Do it fast or not at all—that could be our Secretary of State’s motto for success.

VERY in-angled ears symbolize a talent for fitting in with others, the more conservative the better.  Potential challenge?  It’s a lack of tolerance for the rest of humanity—a plight that afflicts us all, one way or another.

A VERY short nose pegs Rice as a hard worker.  Although the potential challenge is to be taken for granted at work, why do I suspect she has overcome this one?

Note the intensely straight shape at the bottom of Condi’s eyes.  Both are VERY straight, but especially so on the right side.  On a scale from 1-10, where one is straightest and ten is roundest, I’d give that eye a –1.  Yes, this is how she has come to look like beleaguered California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Extreme straightness on the bottom of the eyes reveals extreme loyalty to proven friends, especially in public life.  Potential challenge?  It’s suspicion, and a very rare characteristic in Secretaries of State.  How easy is it to negotiate with foreign leaders when coming from suspicion?  Maybe not, which is why you see the opposite degree of lower eyelid curve in former Secretaries of State Colin Powell, Madeline Albright, Warren Christopher, and  even Henry Kissinger.  

YOU’VE NEVER SEEN A MOUTH LIKE THIS

Big smile depth is my favorite thing about Condoleezza Rice.  She gives an authentic smile, suggesting inner generosity.  No doubt about it, if she likes you, she’s a powerful ally.

But her big smile reveals a rare tooth characteristic that’s far less pleasant.  Note the pointy front teeth, with the points toward the outer edge of each tooth.  (You’ll see it far more clearly in the alternate photo.)  Front teeth represent the ego, as you may remember.  The angles here tell us that Rice’s ego requires that she be in a position of control, more so than with most people you’ll ever meet… unless you should stumble upon another human specimen with pointy front teeth.

Frankly, power is what Condi Rice does best.  Even her first name oozes with power.  If you’ll check out her aura, what will you find?  At every chakra, she radiates enormous power with a strong warrior-like quality.  Frankly, she’s more yang than most men, and certainly her chakras emanate more power than you’ll find anywhere in the highly depleted aura of President Bush.    

INTEGRITY IN CONDI’S AURA           

What about integrity?  When you find power that huge, integrity becomes more important than ever.  So let’s do the three Lie Detector Tests, reading her power chakra, spirituality chakra and throat chakra.

Power integrity is neutral.  Rice’s solar plexus chakra dominates her entire aura: Huge amount of power emanated, yet more power sought.

Spiritual integrity is what you might expect if you’ve followed her career.  At the third eye, Condoleezza could be a poster child for the Bush brand of religion.  Instead of light, there’s dead certainty, which provides a certain kind of strength.

Verbal integrity?  Let’s put it this way.  At the throat chakra, Rice is wonderfully truthful… in private life.  In public, you’ll find layer upon layer of outright lying, concealment of truth, guile and so forth.

In the photos we’ve read here, Condi’s mouth is pretty symmetrical.  To see mouth symmetries, cover up one side of the face at a time.  Compare how far the mouth extends on either side.

Here’s a prediction, however. If she continues to communicate in this fashion, soon her mouth will list sideways like that of Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, John Ashcroft and Donald Rumsfeld.

But having read her face, Condoleeza Rice’s pattern of verbal deception is certainly understandable.  Here’s a woman with strong beliefs (straight chin) and intense personal loyalties (straight lower eyelids), according to which she interprets and re-interprets everything (angled eyebrows).  Between her extra-padded right cheek and those pointy front teeth, this ambitious woman has been marked with a destiny for power.

In the 1840s, U.S. politicians used the term “Manifest Destiny” to justify colonial expansion.  The phrase made people glow with a sense of Divine mission… not unlike the righteousness emanating today from America’s alarmingly expansionist Secretary of State.

“Discovered I’m more capable than I thought.”  This evaluation from England in 2005 is typical from those who study with me.  Many teachers have built a reputation on their charisma, and they help students to become like them.  While I don’t claim to be entirely charisma free, my highest goal is to help you use deeper perception as yourself.  It will be my honor to nurture your gifts, your uniqueness.  Here’s my top ten list for studying with me in 2006. 

1. This has got to be one of the most intimidating projects ever devised for a writer.  Imagine that you decided to email friends one inspiring quote each day.  How many days could you keep it up… and still have the words be worth reading?

I wouldn’t even try.  But Alan Cohen does, and the sustained quality of his quotes astounds me.  His is the one email I look forward to receiving each day.  Giving out these daily quotes for free hints at the inspiration he has offered through decades of books and teaching.  (To sign up to receive Alan’s wonderful daily words of wisdom, click here.)  Credits for this bestselling writer include 20 books and CDs. 

What fun then to begin this new year by saluting the face and aura of such a Lightworker Luminary!

Before I start reading his face, here’s a disclaimer.  He wrote a back-cover review for Empowered by Empathy.  So, admittedly, I like him a lot!

Okay, let’s read him.  Face readers, click here for a good head shot. 

Symmetry between right and left is unusually strong in Alan Cohen’s face, telling us this funny, wise speaker is for real.  The only significant asymmetry I could find shows at his forehead.  To see it, remember to cross over to tell left from right in a photograph.  On his right side only, Alan has the Passion Power Style, where the forehead is the widest part of his face.

This tells us that, in his career, the man is a powerhouse.  Inwardly intense, he accomplishes far more than most people do.  Obstacles that block other people aren’t real for Alan Cohen.  Potential challenge?  Try keeping up with him!  Alan may long since have despaired of finding any assistants who could, not unless they also have this rather unusual power style.

If you know Alan’s work at all, you’ll be curious to read his mouth.  The mischief there won’t disappoint you.  You’ll find Blarney Lips (a term coined by Lailan Young, my favorite practitioner of siang mien), those 3:1 lip proportions of lower lip to upper lip.  Does he have the gift of gab?  If you’re familiar with Alan’s work, you’ll know the answer.  No doubt the world is lucky that he decided to stay on the bright side of the law.

Powerline dimples are the parenthesis-like creases elongating Alan’s mouth.  On anyone, dimples like these indicate charm.  It’s the genuine kind, based in humility.  What’s special with Alan is the position of these dimples, where they line up with the corner of his mouth, increasing the appeal of his communication. (James Taylor also has developed multiple sets of strategically placed dimples.)

Finally, note the paired Marks of Devotion, lines that reach up toward Alan’s third eye. This is my favorite of all items of face data.  How appropriate to find a double set on this “major, major player in the spiritual revolution taking place on our planet today.” (as described by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer).   Even one Mark of Devotion is about having a spiritual vocation.  Potential challenge?  Poor kid, Alan receives absolutely no support for making mistakes.

ALAN’S AURA

To start the new year off right, let’s wallow… in the unique qualities of that aforementioned spiritual vocation of his.  Read Alan Cohen’s aura, layer upon layer, from the photo on his website.

Alan’s world -- physical reality databank at the root chakra:  He lives in a world that sparkles. The childlike joy here has a contagious quality.

Creativity databank at the belly chakra:  Alan is just bursting with creative energy. I suspect that one of his biggest life challenges has involved handling this intensity.  So many people clamoring for an audience, how to give his people the first chance to hear him and get hooked?

The most distinctive quality I notice here is the way Alan’s creativity is in synch with his empathic abilities.  (More on those to follow.)  For now, consider how unusual it is for someone to combine a highly distinctive creative voice with intense experiences of otherness.  For instance, if he tried to give the same talk for two different groups of people—impossible!  The man only does one-of-a-kinders.

Intellectual specialties at the solar plexus chakra:  You’ll find a wide-ranging intellect here, with equal parts curiosity, imagination, analytical ability, incisiveness and Intellectual Empathy (being able to get on another person’s wavelength).  What’s the best part of this huge chakra projection?  When Alan has an aha! it floods him with a Divine sweetness.

If you’re looking for an explanation of why he’s so prolific, look no further; 20 titles isn’t surprising, given that degree of joy. 

(Note to Alan: In case you have time for an extra job -- after all, the secret is out now about your Passion Power Style -- I think you’d make a really fine Talmudic scholar.)

Emotional specialties at the heart chakra:  Here’s where we locate seriousness.  First, the empathic gift for Emotional Oneness surges out.  Then, there’s loyalty -- to people, to principles.  Enthusiasm resides at Alan’s heart chakra, plus a hard-won stability.  (If you think it’s easy for a straight man in American society to be this sensitive, think again.)

Communication patterns at the throat chakra:  Wow!  We’re talking big, contagious, able to fill the room and shake it as much as if Alan were an Elvis.  In my experience of reading auras, it’s rare to find a born entertainer who is also an effective writer.  All the distinctive Alan Cohen qualities show at his throat chakra -- the ones you’ve sampled if you’ve heard one of his CDs or read one of his books.  He’s aligned with spirit -- joyful, outrageous, funny, spellbinding, deep and memorable.

(Note to Condi Rice:  If you’re following up on the reading I just did of you in this Zine, notice how the most lasting communication talent comes from being aligned with truth. That’s where you’ll find the real power.)

Spiritual connection at the third eye chakra:  Alan connects to God through his heart.  It’s a solid connection, lively and vibrant.  No ideology can contain it.  And, in fact, Spiritual Empathy is another gift in his set.  Take Alan to any place of worship and he’ll find the highest truth there.  His is the third eye of a mystic.

Soul expression at the high heart chakra:  I’m pleased to report on one final strength, the one often lacking for those with a super-strong spiritual connection.  Does Alan find time to enjoy his human life?  You bet.  “Rowdy” is the simplest way to summarize this exuberant, free spirit.  

Not only ARE they swell, but their ranks are swelling.  The Face Reading Correspondence Course has just graduated its first student, Ralph Dehner.   I'm enormously proud of Ralph.  He's a credit to the physiognomy profession.  Read about him here.
