OSCAR ALERT -- AURA READING THE BEST ACTRESS NOMINEES

Hooray, it's Oscar season. You know what that means, aura readers. We can serve as the ultimate movie critics. Other viewers can only assess trifles like expression. Ha ha, we dowse to seek true acting greatness.

Yes, it takes Deeper Perception to observe acting at the level of causation. Our methods are far more effective than scrounging around at the surface, reading side effects in a walk or a voice. Only truly great actors make artistic choices that register all the way to down to the level of auras and chakras.

Whose chakras change and whose don't? We can tell, using a method I first developed for publication in the Chicago Sun-Times. For each of the following stars, I'll compare a photo taken in role with a photo of that same actor playing "normal." Then I'll compare bits of aura, chakra databanks about different aspects of life.

For this zine article, I will read all five of the Best Actress nominees. In weeks to come, check my blog for similar articles about each of the Best Actor nominees. Comment to add your insights and questions.

FIRST, SOME WORDS OF CAUTION

Doing this film crit with you, I'm equally ignorant of all the movies which have nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress. A couple of them I do want to see, but haven't yet. I will mention that I did start to see the widely praised "Slumdog Millionaire." But I walked out of the theater, and you might, too.

In case you're considering this "uplifting movie," be warned that right from the beginning it is intercut with graphic, disturbing scenes of torture. Usually movie violence comes with some warning, building as the scene develops. "Slumdog" cuts back and forth, unpredictably, between the narrative and truly grotesque images of violence. Great technique for imprinting a person's subconscious mind with horror and victimhood!

Evidently many movie viewers are so blasé about violence, they don't find this worth mentioning. If you prize your sensitivity (not to mention your mental health), run from the slumdog.

HOW TO JOIN OUR CONVERSATION

For background about the method I'll use here, see my latest how-to, Read People DeeperThis is the first book anywhere with an easy-to-learn technique for accurately reading auras from regular photos. The first foreign edition has just come out in India, another will appear soon in Arabic, and some five other foreign contracts are in progress now. To order your copy in English, click here. You can also call toll-free from the U.S. and Canada 800-345-6665.

Or use any technique that you find effective for reading auras from photos. I'll always supply paired pictures for the Oscar nominee. One displays the featured role. The other shows the star being "normal."

Research away and also feel free to add your comments at my blog, "Deeper Perception Made Practical." Commenting is extra easy because you don't have to sign up or log in. Just follow these simple steps:

ANNE HATHAWAY'S "RACHEL," COURAGEOUS IF NOT SUBTLE

In "Rachel Getting Married," Hathaway plays a self-absorbed recovering addict whose return home for her sister's wedding sparks a family conflict. Let's use these comparison photos as a basis for our Aura Reading:

Anne as Rachel

Anne as Anne

The Reality She Lives In Aura Reading Databank at the Root Chakra

As Anne: Life is fun, and she's enthusiastic about it. Emotions are the strongest aspect of reality for Anne, but she's also physically aware, smart, observant and confident.

As Rachel: Wow, I'm impressed. This character's reality has a chasm-sized crack. It's the major-messed-up reality that I have read in real people who suffer from schizophrenia or drug addiction or both. Hopelessness and loss go all the way to Rachel's core.

The actress has also made the artistic choice for this character to chronically live in a fantasy world. From my experience with aura healing sessions, a person has to be pretty far gone into fantasy for an aura-level structure to show. It's separate from mental illness and drug abuse, but a brilliant and courageous add-on for this performance.

Give Anne Hathaway a Chakra Change point.

Sex Appeal Databank at the Belly Chakra

As Anne: Count it as moderately strong, with human and cuddly qualities. This isn't the typical star-style performance of sexiness, done so superbly by Angelina Jolie. What Anne shows in this photo could be considered a triumph of authenticity in a famous, young, leading lady.

As Rachel: Amount of sex appeal on display is about 1/8th of the actress' norm. In short, there's minimal sex appeal, in the scene pictured, at least. Even more notable, the sexual aspect of this character's life is broken, not even despairing or lonely or ignored but "Love is never, ever going to work out for me."

Yes, score one more Chakra Change point.

Power in Relationships Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Anne: Depending on the particular relationship, Anne can seem spunky, diva-like, or downright bossy. At this point in her life, she's soooo used to getting whatever she wants. In public (as in the photo used for this Aura Reading), Anne's power style is more docile, polite, non-confrontational.

As Rachel: Rachel has nearly no power in relationships except for… the power to disrupt, mess up, create chaos around her. In everyday life, one doesn't often meet the personality type that Virginia Satir called "The Disruptor," but you're sure to recognize ones you have known. They make a big impression because they can cause so much collateral damage.

What a fabulous acting creation! It's another Chakra Change point for spunky Anne.

Being in Touch with Her Own Emotions Databank at the Heart Chakra

As Anne: Are you kidding? Anne mostly lives there. For her, life is all about emotions, nearly all the time.

As Rachel: The character is way more self-absorbed than Anne Hathaway. Moreover, she favors and exaggerates emotions that fuel self-pity. You're sure to have known such people, Professional Victims.

The Professional Actor, pulling the puppet strings, has earned a Chakra Change point.

Communication Charisma Databank at the Throat Chakra

As Anne: No surprise, the actress has star-quality communication charisma. It's a lightweight variety, entertaining but not thought-provoking or particularly transformative.

Call it "Life of the party" charisma, enough to get the crowd laughing or talking. After the party, however, you can't think of anything meaningful that was actually said. Instead, you know you had a good time, courtesy of that vivacious personality.

As Rachel: Again, the character specializes in self-pity. Charisma isn't a consideration. Personally, I find the degree of self-pity about as subtle as a gorilla suit.

So I'm going to give this part of the performance a half-point. Still Chakra Change, and far better than most actors can manage, but not totally impressive.

Spiritual Connection Databank at the Third Eye Chakra

As Anne: Here the young star shows just what one would expect. Not much.

It's completely understandable. Anne's successful and sought after. She even has websites created in her honor like one I encountered when looking for photos, where the home page reads, "Anne Hathaway, the love of my life."

If all those perishable goodies were on your plate, would you reach for the brown rice of spiritual practice? Or maybe this is just an empath's fitting in with present company, because…

As Rachel: The spiritual connection is big, believably big. It's what has helped that character to survive. The portrayal is so realistic; I've often found a sparkling oasis of spiritual connection in an otherwise STUFF-ridden client.

Is Anne an empath with Spiritual Oneness? I can't resist checking out her Spiritual Graces Databank at the Third Eye Chakra. And the answer is yes. One of Anne's soul-level gifts is definitely the gift I call "Spiritual Oneness" in Empowered by Empathy.

That helps explain why, addressing the Motion Picture Academy at the time of this photo Anne has morphed into the common denominator for the whole group regarding Spiritual Connection Databank: Slick and shiny and full of lowest common denominator.

Back to full-point winning at Chakra Change for Ms. Hathaway!

Moral Development Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

This is the part of an aura containing a person's guiding ethical principle.

As Anne: "I am willing to do just about anything if only I can be popular."

As Rachel: "I'm such a burned-out wreck, I don't care."

It's another point winner.

CONCLUSION: CHAKRA DATABANKS CHANGED, 5.5 OUT OF 6.

Young and cute, Anne brings more to this role than jaded filmgoers might expect. Each databank has been drastically altered. Not every choice is subtle, but together all choices add up to a consistent portrayal.

No human being can change all the way down to the level of auras without authentically feeling and being in a way that is different than normal. To experience a character with Rachel's degree of pathology and sorrow was immensely courageous.

WEEKEND AURA READING WORKSHOP -- ONLY ONE IN 2009

AURA READING WORKSHOP

Weekend Intensive

New Ways to Perceive Reality, Outer and Inner

(This is not your typical aura reading workshop!)

MARCH 13-15, 2009

 STERLING, VIRGINIA

Rose's Blog Post for the April 2008 Workshop

Just once this year, I'll offer each of my Weekend Intensives. Our first one comes in March, the Aura Reading Intensive

Everyone was born with big talent for Aura Reading, and it will be my delight to help you make that talent more practical. As an Intensive participant, you could be an experienced aura reader, ready to grow more proficient. Or you could be an absolute beginner, even someone who has tried (and failed) to see auras.

Recently I heard one famous clairvoyant say that "Everyone can see auras. Everyone saw them as children. If you watch children now, you'll see them watching auras."

With all respect, I disagree. The truth is that everyone can READ auras. Everyone used to READ them as children, using the gifts that God gave them. If you observe children now, you'll find they are using their gifts for Deeper Perception.

You can be sure, after my son Matt was born, I watched quite closely to see if he showed evidence of seeing auras. Matt didn't gaze at auras once, far as I could tell. Instead, he listened. Matt has a gift set for Aura Reading which closely resembles the gift sets for Mom and Dad: Clairaudience, clairsentience, truth knowledge, and bunch of empath circuits.

If you were born as clairaudient, you're just as lucky and talented as someone born as clairvoyant. Whichever gifts you have for Aura Reading, I can help you to find them, then USE them. Read other people or just read yourself or both. Your choice

During our Intensive, on March 13-15 in Sterling, VA, I will help you move forward with giant steps on your Aura Reading journey. It's a great supplement to Aura Reading Through All Your Senses and Read People Deeper.

You'll learn how to give a professional quality Aura Reading, in person and from regular photos.  Discover how angelic healing changes your aura.  Explore consumer techniques, relationship readings, reading auras when you watch TV, be dazzled by the auras of flowers, and more.

Seating is limited, so make your reservation now. Email coordinator Julie at JulieSchroedl@msn.comShe can also be reached at 1-540-310-4896 -- but you'll get a faster reply with email.

ANGELINA JOLIE'S SECRET FOR WINNING ACCLAIM

In "Changeling," Angelina plays a frantic mother who searches for her missing son.

Let's use these comparison photos as a basis for our Aura Reading:

Angelina as Christine

Angelina as Angelina

The Reality She Lives In Aura Reading Databank at the Root Chakra

As Angelina: Perhaps Angelina's layered internal reality helps her to play complex characters. This actress is a myth maker about her own life.

Usually when I read this databank, I find intimate existential truths about… reality. But Jolie lives about 80% of her life in a fantasy of her own making, one in which she deeply believes. In this fantasy, she is a kind of fairy-godmother-cosmic-heroine-sex-goddess-incarnation-of-love.

Deeper inside lies a wounded, vulnerable person who carries enormous anxiety. However, this aspect of Angelina's reality is pushed deep into denial.

As a life strategy, it works for her. As a marketing strategy it sure seems to be working. Let's find out how far she can reach, given that fantastic talent.

As Christine: This character experiences even less connection to reality than the actress. Angelina gets credit for making a shift within this chakra databank. But what I find truly notable here is the stunning absence of an inner life or personal reality.

Instead, this character lives as a blank canvas onto which viewers are invited to paint their own fantasies. To help them, Angelina is strongly projecting an image of herself. A summary goes like this:

"I seem to be an innocent victim, very vulnerable. I seem to be trying to find my courage."

In this databank, at least, Angelina's performance is about as nuanced as a cone of cotton candy. And as human. Still she scores a point for Chakra Change.

Sex Appeal Databank at the Belly Chakra

As Angelina: Warm, feminine, and very, very sexual – this is what the actress projects far beyond any of the chakra databanks read in this article. How much sex appeal? It extends for miles.

Angelina sends out this projection extremely convincingly. The sheer amount of sex appeal places her in the movie star category.

Out of curiosity, I shift over to the Sexual Interest Databank in the same chakra. It goes out for about three inches. Very noticeable as well is the reason why. This star has become detached from her body and her sexuality. These have become products that she markets.

As Christine: No change.

Thus, Angelina stands in the grand tradition of sex symbols who never change this chakra databank. No point for acting. But this one artistic choice could be her best shot at winning the Oscar.

Power in Relationships Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Angelina: A strong will is evident. However, the expression of personal power is stuck at a little-girl level. I have the impression that, in private, Angelina acts like a pampered child who trains people near her to give her exactly what she wants. When she doesn't get it, she dissolves into tears.

As Christine: Okay, this performance is beginning to qualify as disturbing. Not disturbing because the characterization pushes sanity to the edge or is otherwise artistically daring. No, it's disturbing because the acting is shockingly bad for a top Oscar-nominated performance.

I find a little-girl, vulnerable kind of power, like Marilyn Monroe on a bad day. This is slathered over with another big thought form. This one goes, "Oh, I am just so vulnerable. But I can find a way to be powerful. Love me, everyone. My struggle is so appealing."

What is the difference between sending out a strong thought form and acting? The easiest way to sum up the difference is: Fake.

Or in two words: Bad acting.

Believable acting is hard to do because the actor must open up to an authentic experience beneath all the superficial and technical aspects of playing a role. By contrast, nearly anyone can do loud mental screaming, such as "I think I can. I think I can." This is what creates acting thought forms like the sad construct projected here.

Since Angelina has made a huge thought form, rather than a chakra shift, I'll score this as half a point for Chakra Change.

Being in Touch with Her Own Emotions Databank at the Heart Chakra

As Angelina: Where a typical person has a beating heart, this daughter of an actor has something different, an actor-thing.

When I facilitate Aura Healing and Transformation for clients, I call distorted patterning like this "an energetic sub-routine." Angelina's goes like this:

I start to feel.

Whatever it is, I slam it into denial.

I experiment with pretending to feel an emotion (a similar one to the squashed one or whatever else I choose).

I am always working hard at being a great actress.

As Christine:

Out pops a thought form to cover up the inner blankness. In this scene from the movie and, undoubtedly, others, the thought form is: "My feelings are so deep, so deep. They are restrained and mysterious but powerful, oh so powerful."

Okay, let's give the actress another half point.

Communication Charisma Databank at the Throat Chakra

As Angelina: Her main talent is feminine softness, combined with a kind of blankness onto which other people can project whatever they fancy. In a tough industry that rewards aggression, this is a distinctive version of charisma. Equally interesting is Angelina's tendency to pull people in, not project out something larger than life.

As Christine: No change.

So, again, this wins no points for Chakra Change… though perhaps much admiration from the audience.

Spiritual Connection Databank at the Third Eye Chakra

As Angelina: I find an avid interest in Angelina's own career, not exactly what most people would consider a form of God. At the time of the photo read here, Angelina's Spiritual Connection Databank is about two inches tall.

As Christine: Such a cute tweak to Angelina's business as usual! This character doesn't have interest in spiritual anything. Guess that means that Christine will have to depend on her own powerful will and other important attributes. This would add to the pathos and power of what is being projected at her other chakra databanks, except, oops, there isn't much of that.

Score another half point.

Moral Development Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Angelina: It's interesting to read this on someone whose personal passions have taken her to the halls of government, to adoption, to causes beyond the silver screen. Has it mostly been a publicity stunt? If one part of the aura would tell you especially clearly, it is right here, at the Moral Development Databank.

So, here goes. What is this person's guiding moral principle at the time of this photo?

"It's all about me, my fame, my being loved by millions. The more loved I am, the better I feel."

As Christine: "I will fight for my child. I will give my all. I care terribly, terribly much, oh so much. No other cause in the world is as noble as mine."

Okay…. it's one note, projected with no subtlety whatsoever, and qualifies as a thought form rather than a chakra change. Now that I have stopped laughing, I'll generously give the actress ¼ point.

CONCLUSION: CHAKRA DATABANKS CHANGED, 2.75 OUT OF 6.

Not that Angelina's big fans will care! Still, very little depth shows at the level of auras, nor is there creativity of characterization. If this is Mrs. Pitt acting at her finest, this aura reader suspects that Angelina doesn't have much going for her professionally except for the ability to look appealing, project sex appeal like mad.. plus some mighty fine fame karma.

For the big award, The Academy usually nominates one actress based on huge sex appeal, acting talent optional. Clearly, Angelina is this year's pick.

MElissa Leo's noble choice

In "Frozen River," Melissa plays a desperate mother who joins a smuggling ring to avoid losing her home. Let's use these comparison photos as a basis for our Aura Reading:

Melissa as Ray

Melissa as Melissa

Technical point: Whenever you read the Melissa as Melissa photo, first notice the big thought form being projected here. Aided and abetted by the photographer's camera angle, this photo sledgehammers us with this thought form: "I am wise and sensitive, with great reserves of compassion."

Actress as priestess and healer -- the ideal goes all the way back to Ancient Greece. If an actor today can't strongly send out this kind of thought form in her own publicity photograph, where's the fun?

I would have substituted a better photograph except that it was really hard for me to find any usable photo of Melissa on her own. So, Intrepid Aura Readers, let's just make do. Remember to read beneath that very sturdy thought form.

The Reality She Lives In Aura Reading Databank at the Root Chakra

As Melissa: She's a very sensuous woman with exceptional physical intelligence and the ability to translate ideas and emotions through her face and body. Golly, why on earth did she bother sending out that silly thought form?

What impresses me most is evidence of growth, located right in this chakra databank. History of growth does show in auras, and this configuration inspires my heartfelt admiration:

Such persistent, existential choices Melissa has made to perfect her craft! Experienced Aura Readers, check out all the intricate patterning in this databank (and others). You'll find exquisite testimonials to how hard she has worked.

Basically, all the striations at this root chakra databank tell us that, for a very long time, Melissa Leo has worked hard to shape herself into an actress, studying and practicing and dedicating herself mightily. Spend four more lifetimes spent like this, with so much dedication and sacrifice, and she just might incarnate as a Meryl Streep. Even in this lifetime, as a serious artist, Melissa is worlds of effort away from Angelina or Anne.

As Ray: "I'm a hard-working, salt-of-the-earth, practical woman." She isn't sensuous in the same way as Melissa Leo, nor is she particularly resourceful.

Thus, the actress has given us a sincere, nuanced, respectful portrayal of someone who possesses mental health. How curiously refreshing to encounter this in a movie! I'm somewhat shocked that the Academy found such character worth noticing. Perhaps later in the movie her head is cut off?

Clearly I haven't seen 'Frozen River." But I've already noticed enough to score Melissa Leo her first great big, juicy, acting point. This is my very favorite databank of ANY of the Oscar-nominated women I read for this zine.

Sex Appeal Databank at the Belly Chakra

As Melissa: This databank reflects an unusually strong sex drive. The Leo woman doesn't flaunt it, however. She just is into sex. Specifically, her aura suggests that Melissa appreciates energy, sharing, creativity, tenderness, emotional connection, and sensuality.

What really impresses me is that her Sex Appeal Databank is identical to the databank I call "Real-Life Sexiness," the one where our previous Oscar contestant didn't fare nearly so well.

As Ray: Although Ray has sex appeal in reserve, at this time in her story (given the photo we're using), Ray isn't having much of a love life. Her energies are directed elsewhere.

Clearly, this deserves a point for Chakra Change. It's also impressive to me because the actress is portraying something very common, and doing it respectfully. This character isn't portrayed as sexually deficient. She's neither dowdy or uninterested, just focused on survival

Power in Relationships Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Melissa: This is one steely woman. She won't settle for less than fair treatment and has gradually learned strong assertiveness skills. Being a diva isn't the premise but, rather, being a hardworking professional who does what she must to survive in a tough business.

Like the first databank we've read on her, this part of Melissa Leo shows how repeated choices, made day by day, can beautify an aura.

As Ray: How this character puts up a fight! If necessary, she will act braver than she feels. Usually her efforts aren't terribly successful, but at least she tries to stand up for herself.

I have met countless women with a databank like this one and bet that you have, too. Given the contrast to Melissa's own aura, once again I'm impressed. She's drawing on how she was, once upon a very long time ago. And the actress is revisiting history without being the least bit patronizing. Point well earned!

Being in Touch with Her Own Emotions Databank at the Heart Chakra

As Melissa: Self-awareness is strong, but let's not confuse this with self-absorption. Instead, consider this self-awareness a side effect of her having such a big, beautiful, warm, loving heart. A soul-level gift for healing emotions in others causes her to pay close attention to her authentic experiences.

Those of you reading this article who are emotional healers know this fact. You can only heal others emotionally to the degree that, within yourself, you are emotionally honest, authentic, and clear.

Melissa's commitment to "actor as healer," shown in that aforementioned thought form in her publicity photo  –  now I'm beginning to understand better why she chose it. Based on this chakra databank alone, I'd say that Ms. Leo has earned the standing.

As Ray: "I don't have time to fuss with feelings. If a very extremely dramatic situation comes my way, maybe then I will notice one of my emotions. Slightly." More salt of the earth! And score one more point for Melissa.

Communication Charisma Databank at the Throat Chakra

As Melissa: Gently mesmerizing and huge. Her audiences won't know what hit them, as they are moved into a connection with whatever story she tells. Yes, it's a specialized form of charisma, not for glorifying her personal ego but for healing others. This won't get her noticed, except by the discerning.

As Ray: No charisma shows. But this character could be entertainingly bitter, sarcastic and/or grumpy.

With less artistic finesse, this choice could have veered into stereotype. Instead, Melissa has steered Ray into total believability and, of course, earned another point for superb acting.

Spiritual Connection Databank at the Third Eye Chakra

As Melissa: Not only is the spiritual connection large and luscious. I'd have to say that Melissa Leo has the most Jungian third eye I've ever seen. (And my clients for aura healing do include some Jungian therapists.)

Any of you readers know much about Melissa's real-life bio? I'd expect it to include mention of her fascination with Jungian archetypes and the Collective Unconscious.

As Ray: The forehead scrunch in our photo is perfect. Spiritually, Ray is strictly do-it-yourself. Her face crinkles from an effort I've often found in students who haven't yet learned how to open up and connect to Spiritual Source.

Ray simply is not aware of a Higher Power, handing out free Girl Scout cookies or other goodies. No bitterness ensues. The character just takes responsibility for her own life, muddling through as best she can.

For the actress to go from super-sophisticated to sincere and simple is incredibly touching to me. This didn't take the kind of reckless bravery demonstrated by Anne Hathaway, changing chakras as Rachel. But for someone who really has established a strong, vibrant spiritual connection, living without it (even for a minute) is such a sacrifice.

Besides, I wonder. Would the movie-going public have been sophisticated enough to notice if Melissa Leo had faked this part of her performance? Life would have been much easier to handle if Melissa Leo kept her usual third eye chakra.

Who would have noticed, really? Regarding third eye development, America's average movie-goers are much like the Ray character. They wouldn't notice authentic spiritual connection if it slapped them over the forehead with a tennis racket.

You would notice, of course. Anyone interested in Aura Reading has the ability to recognize spiritual connection. For us, perhaps, but also out of her own artistic integrity, Melissa didn't fudge this part of her performance. So, of course, she earns one more Chakra Change point.

Moral Development Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Melissa: "I will do anything to serve humanity and to keep learning."

As Ray: "God, help me get through this day without hurting anyone. I don't know what the heck I'm doing."

Aw, gotta love the way that Melissa has won this last Chakra Change point!

CONCLUSION: CHAKRA DATABANKS CHANGED, 6 OUT OF 6.

As a result of this Aura Reading, Melissa Leo has gone from an actress I'd never heard of to a performer -- and person -- I really admire.

And I do want to see "Frozen River." It is so rare to find a big-budget movie today with a character like Ray Eddy, someone honorable, simple, sane, and so very human. As that character was written, Melissa might have portrayed her quite differently. This version is more like the Hollywood classics, where most characters in dramas were simple, human, and sane.

MERYL STREEP MAY TERRIFY YOU, FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

In "Doubt," Meryl plays strict, as the head of a Catholic school who suspects that a new priest is abusing a student.

Let's use these comparison photos as a basis for our Aura Reading:

Meryl as Sister Aloysius Beauvier

Meryl as Meryl

The Reality She Lives In Aura Reading Databank at the Root Chakra

As Meryl: If she weren't so sophisticated, her world could be considered childlike. I find wonder, laughter, and curiosity galore, along with a controlled love of risk taking.

What strikes me most is something very adult, a sense of competence in life. Meryl isn't INVITING danger or hardship. Nonetheless, she lives with a quiet kind of confidence that, if need be, she can triumph over anything.

As Sister Aloysius: Ouchers! Doing an empath merge with this character (such is my trust in Meryl), it felt as if I crashed, splat, against a brick wall. That wall happens to be bare, except for a very large crucifix.

What Streep has done with this portrayal reminds me of those Magic Eye books where you look at the picture in that special way and a whole other picture emerges, along with a different kind of space.

In this character's reality, all the joy -- and much of the space -- have been sucked out. This sacrifice is made gladly, in service to God. This stark sacrifice reminds me of what I've read and (like many of you Zine readers) may even have experienced… in some past life or other, about devoted monks and nuns who would whip themselves, for the sake of what they believed.

Here Streep portrays the modern psychological equivalent of self-flagellation. Her rejection of life is stunning. Even physical space seems smaller. Air isn't a delight to breathe, but a necessity.

This kind of nun-life is taken to the max, like an extreme sport. How extreme? By comparison with this character, any really frustrated, unhappy nuns you may have met were dilettantes.

Mother Teresa, for instance, have you read her aura from photos? I have. It's impressive, checking out her heroic austerity and suffering. By comparison with this character, however, when it comes to sacrificial living, Mother Teresa was like a novice.

Count that as 1 gigantic point for Chakra Change -- although the sheer impact and intensity make me want to count it as 10.

Sex Appeal Databank at the Belly Chakra

As Meryl: Healthy enjoyment of sex shows beautifully here. Passion isn't taken to extremes but is balanced with the rest of a well-lived life. It's also impressive that, actress or not, Meryl hasn't cheapened her sex appeal by using it to make her reputation. Everyone knows that sex sells. However, Meryl's sexuality isn't for sale.

As Sister Aloysius: What shows here is more than a big, symbolic "Keep Out" sign. A personal choice has been made to obliterate everything sexual. Deeds. Words. Thoughts. Cells.

The austere quality reminds me of what I found aura reading Mother Teresa, except that the real-life nun suffered much more in the process of trying to obliterate all traces of sex from her aura.

Meryl has earned one more Chakra Change point the hard way. This one must have been especially tough to earn. The whole time that Streep stayed in character, food probably tasted like sawdust.

Power in Relationships Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Meryl: Power circuits have been actively in place for a very long time. Meryl doesn't mind jousting or teasing. For her, power experimentation isn't scary. Most people would make almost any sacrifice to avoid confrontation. Not this lady! She won't start fights without a reason, but woe to the confronter.

As Sister Aloysius: Fascinating artistic choice here! This databank is ten times as big as the two ones read previously. Aloysius has an energetic sub-routine where sexual energy, intellectual energy, and emotional energy are all routed toward power. And not just any power! Fighting power!

Yes, this character is more than ready to fight. She would tell herself that every battle is noble. But the aura itself suggests a mental health need. All that repressed energy has got to go somewhere. Given Sister's fierce discipline, all her oomph goes to defend her domain, her faith, whatever cause seems to be righteous.

And, of course, another oomphy Chakra Change point has been earned by Ms. Streep.

Being in Touch with Her Own Emotions Databank at the Heart Chakra

As Meryl: The actress lives emotions fully, then notices afterwards what has happened. Her calibration of emotional nuance is, of course, exquisite. Most people, and certainly most actors, never manage this.

I'm also impressed, frankly, by Meryl Streep's degree of mental health. Here's what she doesn't do, as evidenced by patterning in this part of her aura:

Exaggerate emotions.

Deny emotions.

Wallow in emotions.

Distance herself from emotions.

Play "the actress" while having her emotions.

As Sister Aloysius: In her heart there is room for only one love. And she does love The Christ.

Sister's version of Jesus happens to be perfectly adapted to her very disciplined, emotionally frozen, ability to love. This is a very nuanced, creatively chosen, kind of emotional life.

When I see the movie, which I've been planning to do ever since reading about it, I can't wait to hear the voice that the actress developed for this role. Clairaudient Zine readers, if you saw this movie, didn't the voice itself precisely broadcast this character's degree of emotional fixedness mixed with idealism?

In any case, based on Aura Reading, another point must be accorded Ms. Streep. I'll add my condolences for what it must have felt like spending even two itchy minutes in this character's love-pinched skin.

Communication Charisma Databank at the Throat Chakra

As Meryl: Feminine energy is the most striking component to this luscious, talented, healthy throat chakra. Meryl is an ensemble communicator, appreciating others and using communication to energize the whole group. As a performer, she shares the limelight, uplifting her fellow actors. But she'll do the same with friends or family.

Think of what is called "the life of the party." Subtract any need to show off. Add a good time, had by all.

As Sister Aloysius: Although loving in her own way, the real oomph to this communication databank can be summed up in the word "strict."

Charisma isn't applicable. Undeniably there is power. It is power to sting, to hurt feelings, to lodge just the right words in just the right way to inflict maximum misery.

Of course, with this character, there would always be good, rationalized reason to justify the strictness. Always, she will believe her intent is loving. But deeper into that chakra databank, you can find the underlying rage and frustration of this woman. It's like a warrior armed only with a slingshot. She could make even Goliath go sobbing for Mommy.

One more ping -- I mean point – for Meryl.

Spiritual Connection Databank at the Third Eye Chakra

As Meryl: Have you ever wondered, "When will I ever be in the presence of someone who's spiritually enlightened?" If you're reading Meryl's aura – any chakra -- you're reading That right now. Her version is being very aware of what is, calmly poised, clear, flexible, delighted as a child, generating wisdom as though she were a perpetual-motion machine.

As Sister Aloysius: Ironically, perhaps, the woman who gives her life for religion has nothing approaching spiritual enlightenment. Instead, she carries the narrow, closed, compartmentalized spirituality of a true zealot. It's a beautiful way to explore human life, just not much fun... either for the zealot or for those she deals with.

Such a day-to-night difference definitely rates a full Chakra Change Point.

Moral Development Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Meryl: "Following my delight, I serve humanity."

As Sister Aloysius: "I will do whatever is right, no matter how much it costs me."

So score one more Chakra Change Point, the Ancient Being dropping down to the moral heights of a hardworking teenage soul.

CONCLUSION: CHAKRA DATABANKS CHANGED, 6 OUT OF 6.

Another scary good job for Meryl to add to all her collection of acting creations! A lesser actress might have changed all six databanks but given us a caricature or a stereotype. Instead, Streep has given audiences the compassionate portrayal of a woman doing the best she can, her own harshest enemy.

KATE WINSLET, MAJESTIC IN SHADES OF GRAY

In "The Reader," Kate courageously plays an unrepentant former Nazi who hits on a teenage boy. A friend who saw this film told me how important it was to her. "I'll never see things in black and white again."

Let's use these comparison photos as a basis for our Aura Reading:

Kate as Hanna

Kate as Kate

The Reality She Lives In Aura Reading Databank at the Root Chakra

As Kate: It's a starkly competitive life for her, being in show biz. Kate works hard, summoning great discipline and focus. And, if you've followed the stats, she is the youngest actress ever to be nominated for so many Oscars. But don't tell her aura that, because she's as focused as Michael Phelps, swimming for his life.

Multiple scars in this part of her aura show how repugnant the struggle has been to her. Kate would so much rather just act -- not have to keep proving herself again and again.

As Hanna: Life is bitter. People are strict. Even toilet training has been harsh. (No kidding. Any of you Zine readers close enough to Kate Winslet to ask about how she constructed her character's complete back story?)

All the way at this character's core there are secrets to hide.

Score the first Chakra Change point for Winslet and, with this first immersion into the character's aura, prepare for experiences of dingy – though very human – shades of gray.

Sex Appeal Databank at the Belly Chakra

As Kate: Sex appeal is huge for this woman. Sexually, she's a puppy -- spontaneous, sensuous, a great enjoyer of life. And what she projects is very much what she is actually like as a lover. Main difference is that her Real-Life Sex Databank has sex as an important shift of focus for her, welcome relief from being such a hardworking, conscientious acting professional.

As Hanna: Sex matters a lot to this character, too. But the quantity and quality are greatly diminished compared to Kate's version. Most important, for Hanna, sex is charged with guilt.

Reading this chakra databank, I begin to appreciate why a character like Hanna, so scarred and guilt-ridden, would HAVE to choose a form of sex to match the rest of her pain.

Kate's second Chakra Change point is bestowed with a deep sigh of relief... because I'm so glad to be outta that character's belly chakra.

This version of sexuality is tremendously disturbing, even to read for 10 seconds in somebody else's aura. Not for the first time, I am awed by the courage an actor can summon, jumping fiercely into hell-on-earth.

Power in Relationships Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Kate: Being a performer, Kate is accomplished at acting confident. Inwardly, she has clearly had her struggles. Give her credit for overcoming so much shyness and other inner obstacles – not vanquishing them once and for all but struggling one day at a time.

As Hanna: Such complexity! This character has a great need for power. It's tinged with rage, sadism, and father issues galore.

Whew! Yes, give Kate that Chakra Change point. Can we go to a happier databank next?

Alas, I fear not.

Being in Touch with Her Own Emotions Databank at the Heart Chakra

As Kate: Yes, she's way in touch. And yes, those emotions are rip-tides. From reading this databank, I gather that one of Kate Winslet's greatest personal achievements has been to handle surges of emotion, calm then down through force of will and clever use of intellect, then teach herself how to use such emotional power as an actress.

It's as though she was born running and has diligently taught herself how to vary the speed… all the way down to a walk.

As Hanna: This heart has been broken again and again. Yet Hanna bravely seeks to love. It's like pursuing the dim light at the end of a very long tunnel.

If I gave extra points for Tough, Horrible, Verging-on- Disgusting, Ways to Change an Aura, Kate Winslet would be winning our Oscar contest. As it is, Kate has totally earned that meager but valuable maximum 1 Chakra Change point.

Communication Charisma Databank at the Throat Chakra

As Kate: Here's more evidence that Kate Winslet is no show-off by nature. Her comfort zone with communicating in public is to fade into the background, not calling attention to herself at all.

As Hanna: Aw, this character has no charisma at all. In fact she expects people to hate her. There's a massive thought form about being hated, sooner or later. It's layered over the character's listless, scared and scarred Throat Chakra databank.

One more point scored for Kate. Although ouchers!

Spiritual Connection Databank at the Third Eye Chakra

As Kate: She has a beautiful, emerging, struggling, lively growth happening at this point in her life. Also she feels like an exceptionally dedicated Church of England girl, whether she formally attends services or not.

As Hanna: Spiritual connection is totally closed down. Plus Hanna hates herself. She can't imagine a life without guilt, shame, and despising herself.

As an emotional and spiritual healer, yes, I've encountered pain like this. From my perspective, life doesn't get much scarier. By willingly going into such a dark place, Kate Winslet has shows courage much like Anne Hathaway's in her Best Actress-Nominated role. Only Winslet's role is so much darker and more painful, it's like living on the verge of suicide.

Want to bet that Kate's life improved enormously once she shot her last scene for this film? Here's one thing we don't have to guess about. She definitely wins one more hard-hard-won point for Chakra Change.

Moral Development Databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra

As Kate: "I do my very best in life, and hide the cost."

As Hanna: "Nobody loves me. But I'll get along, doing the best I can.

Yes, that's a definite Chakra Change Point for Kate Winslet.

CONCLUSION: CHAKRA DATABANKS CHANGED, 6 OUT OF 6.
