THE SEXUAL CONTINUUM

Felicity Huffman just won a Golden Globe for playing a transsexual.  Accepting, she praised "the men and women who brave ostracism, alienation and a life lived on the margins to become who they really are."  (See my Face an Aura Readings of Felicity later in this issue.)

Hearing an audio-clip of her acceptance speech, I was moved to tears.  As an empath, so often I experience people who live in hiding or feel ashamed to be who they are, or both.  So I’ll dedicate this month’s Zine to reading sexuality in faces and auras.  For starters, let me introduce you to what I call “the sexual continuum.”

(This part of our Zine is excerpted from my book published last year in Germany as “PartnerLooks.” It hasn’t been published in English yet.  Stay tuned.)

Masculine and feminine qualities are hardly a matter of either-or.  Deeper perception reveals a continuum, with exclusively male on one edge and exclusively female on the other.  No place along that continuum guarantees a person’s sexual orientation.  Most of us are mixtures.

To learn more about the nuances, read auras.  Every chakra bends toward either masculine or feminine energy.  And you can definitely read how anyone’s full set adds up.

What you learn about sexual orientation won’t be conclusive, of course.  Many a person who’s aurically gay may be in denial over it, or a straight person may be going through a much-needed experimental phase.  Interesting?  Yes.  Simple?  No.

If you’re looking for one easy test about sexuality, here’s the best I can offer you.  Some--not all--homosexuals do have a backwards energy flow in the second chakra only.  But, complicating matters, when a woman has her period, or anyone takes certain medicines (such as antibiotics), all the chakras flow backwards.  And even someone with a backwards energy flow at the second chakra may not consciously be aware of homosexual leanings.

Still it’s fun to research.  To read chakra flow, use a pendulum.  This can be a specially designed instrument.  Or use a teabag made with a string; when you hold onto the paper tag, the dangling teabag becomes your pendulum.

Ask the person you investigate to lie down.  Hold your pendulum over one chakra at a time, a few inches above the body.  The pendulum will circle in a way that corresponds to chakra flow.  (To learn proper technique, ask someone familiar with pendling to teach you.)

Chakra flow is clockwise in the northern hemisphere,  counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere.  Everywhere, chakras generally flow in the same direction you see when water swirls down the drain.  A backwards flow is movement in the opposite direction.

Is sexual orientation a matter of choice, as some people believe?  Frankly, aura reading proves that such a belief is nonsense.

Don’t take my word for it.  Research the sexual continuum on your own and you’ll gain an extra measure of respect for God’s creation of infinite human variety.  Does any sexual orientation translate as bad or disgusting?  Sleaze, lying, infidelity and sexual addiction ain’t pretty.  But these are about choice, not sexual orientation.

What’s the most interesting way to use deeper perception on issues of gay vs. straight?  Try this.  When gay bashers get their pictures in the paper, read their auras.

VALENTINES THAT LINGER

The most lasting gifts owe their impact to the degree to which the giver connects with the recipient.  Hasn’t that been your experience when others have given you gifts?

So deeper perception can help you give better presents every day of the year.  But, of course, we especially think of sweet little love offerings for the day dedicated to love, February 14th.

To enhance the best qualities in a relationship, give your special someone a face reading, an aura reading or provide insights by using a Turn ON technique as a skilled empath.  Isn’t being known deeply one of the highest compliments?

And, no, it isn’t too weird for you to give a short face reading to a main squeeze, a relative, or a school teacher who already owns way too many bottles of hand lotion.

Here’s how to present your own reading in the form of a Valentine’s Day gift.  Begin with a card or coupon or other beautiful Official Notice.  Maybe it will be the first reading that you officially do. What a great way to start!

If you’d like some tips for doing a first reading for a Valentine’s Gift, send me an email at rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject line VALENTINE’S TIPS and I’ll send you a free Tip Sheet with a dozen additional ideas to make your gift wonderful.

Also, Chapter 15 in The Power of Face Reading is loaded with how-to advice about giving readings to clients.

May your special day be glorious!

FELICITY'S FACE -- MASCULINE OR FEMININE

What’s the secret to sussing out sexual style on a face?  It’s simpler than high school geometry.  Straight lines on a face relate to masculine qualities while curves relate to feminine ones.  Angles, the third option, are about control—truly a unisex quality.

Here we’ll compare Felicity’s face in her role as a Desperate Housewife with her face as a guy-turning-gal. (In Transamerica, she’s one operation short of full femaledom.)

The strongest line or curve on Felicity’s face is her straight chin bottom, which is about making choices based on principle.

Next, check out the shape at the lower half of her eyes.  In her picture as Lynette, the housewife, these lines are nearly straight.  On a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being straightest, I’d give her a “–1” for her right eye and a 1 for her left.  This suggests intense loyalty to proven friends.  The potential challenge is being suspicious of strangers.

Good lower eyelid acting indeed!  As you know if you’ve seen “Desperate Housewives,” Lynette’s husband is truly horrid.

In her photo as Bree, the transsexual, Huffman creates the extreme opposite. Each eye couldn’t be more curved at the bottom, truly a 10 out of 10.  Besides the usual interpretation of openness to strangers, sure, we can deconstruct this as a more feminine facial quality, emphasizing Bree’s chosen gender.

Similarly, Huffman usually wears a more masculine eyebrow shape.  As Lynette, the brows are nearly straight, emphasizing an idea-driven mentality.  But as Bree, her brows are VERY curved, symbolizing thinking where feelings predominate, related to feminine energy more than masculine.

BUT-BUT-BUT

Whoa! I can practically hear the protests and questions, as some of you read about this sexually-oriented version of face reading.  True, this Zine issue marks the first time in English that I’ve read faces for gender.  But the age-old rules of physiognomy still apply.

If you’ve read The Power of Face Reading or my advanced face reading book, Wrinkles Are God's Makeup, you know that the basis of physiognomy is the relationship between the inner person and the physical face.  Over time, physiognomists say, we develop the faces we deserve.

But in a movie, aren’t most of the changes simply makeup?  Some are, but not all.

You can play with the shape of your lower eyelid curve.  To do this, look into a mirror while you round and narrow your eyes.  Usually involuntary, these muscles correlate with inner emotions.  If you’re a fabulously talented actor like Felicity Huffman, you can put yourself into the inner space that gives lower eyelids a particular shape.  Then comes the real challenge, to stay in character while reciting your lines and hitting your marks.

What about cosmetically changing the face, as happens with Huffman’s eyebrows?  Face reading is about the mind-body relationship, reciprocal down to every detail.  So if you change your face on the outside, you’ll change on the inside in corresponding ways.  Thus, what we see counts.

INSPIRED MAKEUP

Of all the ways Huffman’s face was altered for the movie role as Bree, the most brilliant change was to apply dark makeup especially around her left eye to give the appearance of a VERY deep-set eye on the left.  (Remember, when telling right from left with a photo, cross over in your imagination as though shaking hands with the person.)  Can you notice how Bree’s eye appears to have sunk waaaay under her eyebrow?

Why choose her left eye?  Brilliant!  The left eye side of the face carries information about personal relationships, while the right side concerns projecting an image in public.  So this characteristic relates to something intensely personal.

Deep-set eyes are about being able to hide your true beliefs, your authentic experience. And isn’t that the story of gender conflicts?

VOLUNTEER CREATIONS AT WOMEN'S INTUITION WORLDWIDE

For a “worldwide” company, it’s awfully small.  For years, Women's Intuition Worldwide has been Rose, plus the occasional help of a consultant.

Now we’re starting to grow.  Mitch, my husband, now serves as my Scheduler as well as the mighty Website Manager.  Several friends have pointed out ways that we could make more use of volunteers, and every one of these assignments could be fun.

Do you know someone who would like to do one of the following?

HEALING NETWORKER

Is healing your profession or your passion?  This year, my strongest desire for outreach is to connect up with folks who study Reiki, Healing Touch, plus psychotherapists and others who work as healers.  The unique skills for empaths that I teach are especially helpful for them, and my Healing Networker will help me to identify and make contact with members of the healing community, most of whom don’t yet know that consciousness-based empath’s skills are really possible.

A little training, then 3 hours per month to set in motion service to your fellow healers and to their clients.  If interested, send an email to rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject: HEALING NETWORKER.

WORKSHOP SPONSOR

This is a one-time (well, possibly annual) chance to bring Rose to your area.  You’d help me get together with an organization that sponsors workshops—as Donna Cooley has in Cincinnati—or with a retreat center—as Ralph Dehner did to organize my first Midwestern Empath’s Intensive for Healers.

You could even assemble a group of 15 or more students to bring me to a friendly living room.  Some of the most wonderful workshops and all-day intensives happen that way.  If interested in bringing me to teach and do sessions in your aura, send an email to rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject: WORKSHOP SPONSOR.

MEDIA TOOTER

Interviews on the media are what I do instead of advertising.  They help level the playing field for an independent press like mine or, at least, help me to enter the playing field at all.  (You may know that chain bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Borders do not stock self-published books, and for years they even have policies against having self-published authors doing bookstore signings.)

My Media Tooter will send out emails on my behalf.  If you’re shy about phone calls, know that you will never have to make a single one.  You can make an amazing difference, I predict.

Because I’d be spending at few hours training you, I do ask for a six-month commitment for this particular volunteer position.  Estimated time required to send out press releases online: A little training, then 3-4 hours per week.  If interested, send an email to rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject: MEDIA TOOTER.

CRAIG’S LISTER

Someone handy with emails could help get the word out about our unique offerings with deeper perception.

Estimated time required to earn some good karma: A little training, then 3 hours per month on a virtual tour of the nation.  If interested, send an email to rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject: CRAIG’S LISTER.

FORUM HOST

Generous Lisa Paradis has been volunteering for years by hosting two different forums to create community around my work.  Now that she’s turned pro in her own right, she has less time for this project, and so will continue to run the forum for EMPATHS only.  Other volunteers are developing forums for Aura Reading Through All Your Senses and Face Reading Secrets.

Deeper perception has a world of applications.  If you inhabit one which doesn’t include a forum yet, and you have a passion for creating a forum, the service is free. All it takes is some time and care.

Of course, you don’t need my permission to set up a forum, but if you’d like a link from my home page and monthly Zines, send an email to rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject: NEW FORUM.

Estimated time required to run and monitor a forum: An average of 20 minutes per day.  Incidentally, tech support is available for setting this up if it will be on my website, thanks to some of my generous volunteers.

TELESEMINAR COORDINATOR

In 2006, I’ll be starting a series of telephone seminars.  A very exciting program is planned.  To make it work, I’ll need—you guessed it…

Estimated time required to help me give 17 new workshops with phone connections instead of a long drive over highways: A little training, then 4 hours per month.  If interested, send an email to rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject: TELESEMINAR COORDINATOR.

BLOG MAVEN

Do know the blog scene?  Would you like to?  My blog maven will get to know the blogs sympathetic to my work and help me to link up with like-minded communities.

Estimated time required to exercise your intellect, your detective skills, your curiosity: A little training, then 3 hours per month.  If interested, send an email to rose@rose-rosetree.com with the subject: BLOG MAVEN.

OTHER IDEAS?

If you have additional ideas for Women's Intuition Worldwide, by all means volunteer to… share your thoughts.  Send an email to me at, you guessed it, rose@rose-rosetree.com with any subject you choose!

GENDER-BENDING IN AURAS

Critics have praised the more obviously gender-bending aspects of Huffman’s performance in “Transamerica”—her ultra-feminine body language that is one beat off and the amazing degree to which she lowered her voice.  Technical achievements like these, huge as they are, are separate from the kind of acting genius that goes so deep as to alter a chakra.

No acting, no activity or choice whatsoever, can change the gifts of the soul, my favorite part of an aura to read.  Still, acting can definitely change sexual emphasis.

Here’s a three-part chakra-by-chakra comparison of Felicity Huffman’s aura in three very different roles.  The picture of her as herself, holding her Emmy for “Desperate Housewives,” isn’t representative but is better than representative.

Photos taken when someone has just won a prestigious award won’t reveal auras-as-usual.  But the soul sings, so the qualities inherent in all that person’s chakras are accentuated.  For that short time of being honored, the person is more herself or himself than usual.  Not only is it a great way to read the core person, but it’s one of the best times to read auras because it will inspire you as an aura reader.  And if you’re an empath, that massive validation of the soul will be contagious.  The only other photo op that could reveals the soul as clearly is when an un-trained dancer is photographed mid-air, jumping.)

The second picture for our sexually-oriented reading is of Lynette (the lovelorn, married hetero female living on Wisteria Lane.)

Third, we’ll check out Huffman’s aura as Bree (the man-turning-woman in Transamerica).

Before reading my version, use the techniques in Let Today Be a Holiday or Empowered by Empathy to read these photos for yourself!

Presence in the World (Root Chakra)

Huffman as herself: Joyfully, exuberantly feminine—like the dancer in a pink tutu who has just landed the role as prima ballerina.

Huffman as a “Desperate Houswife”: Unusually feminine, projecting an intense sex appeal.  But she’s also bruised emotionally, sarcastic, and one choice short of bitter.

Huffman as a transsexual: Based in pain, grief, overcoming suffering, this is a very earthy way to relate to life.  Although her aura still registers as very definitely female, Huffman has lowered her vibration to a significant degree.  And since men, bless them, do generally have lower vibes than women, this tour-de-force change to her whole way of being to an extremely convincing imitation of maleness.

Sexiness (Belly Chakra)

Huffman as herself: Expansive, very soft, feminine energy.  Empathic qualities in her aura make her an extraordinary lover.  No hooks are in this part of her aura.  (Many performers have this, but Felicity doesn’t debase her sexuality by consciously using it to gain extra attention or charisma.)

Huffman as a “Desperate Houswife”: Yes, she’s hot and very female.  But she’s also carrying so much victim energy, there’s a built-in sexual turnoff.

Huffman as a transsexual: Here’s another woman’s approximation of masculine energy.  Felicity is drawing on strength and aggressiveness.  Her sexual chakra is loaded with it.

Mind (Solar Plexus Chakra)

Huffman as herself: Intellectual empathy is one of Huffman’s many empathic talents.  She shows a strong ability for hearing how other people think—and this chakra is overwhelmingly feminine.

Huffman as a “Desperate Houswife”: Her mind is very active, disciplined.  Control is a much-cultivated talent.  Anger lies just below the surface, shaping her thought patterns.  Masculine qualities predominate.

Huffman as a transsexual: Absolutely fascinating!  Huffman has given herself a very focused, male intellect, emphasizing craftiness, strategy, doing whatever he/she needs to do to survive amid difficulties.

Emotions (Heart Chakra)

Huffman as herself: Emotional oneness is another empathic gift.  Overall, it’s a very femininely-patterned chakra.  At the time of this photo, she is strongly squelching her emotions to keep from crying.

Huffman as a “Desperate Houswife”: Stuffed negative emotions cause her to seem aloof, detached.  Masculine energy shows more than feminine energy.

Huffman as a transsexual: Feminine vulnerability has been turned waaay up, but there are also notes of masculine guardedness.  If this heart chakra were a chocolate bar, it would definitely be bittersweet.

Communication (Throat Chakra)

Huffman as herself: Selflessness is my favorite of the components here, and it blends with the wonderful devotion to God that shows in her third eye.  Acting as spiritual service?  You bet it is for Felicity!  Altogether, it’s a gently powerful chakra display, brimming with feminine energy.

Huffman as a “Desperate Houswife”: Harsher in public than in her personal relationships, this character always wears a mask when communicating.  Underneath the masculine quality, there is just a bit of very vulnerable feminine energy.

Huffman as a transsexual: Vulnerable feminine energy accounts for about half.  The rest is a strongly masculine quality of defensiveness.

COVERING: THE HIDDEN ASSAULT ON OUR CIVIL RIGHTS

In January, Dr. Kenji Yoshino published a definitive—and eloquent—book about covering--downplaying aspects of ourselves we know may be seen as less acceptable in society

Covering : The Hidden Assault on Our Civil Rights

Yoshino is a law professor at Yale and a gay, Asian-American man.  Here’s what Publisher’s Weekly had to say about his book:

What emerges is an eloquent, poetic protest against the hidden prejudices embedded in American civil rights legislation—legislation that tacitly apologizes for "immutable" human difference from the white, male, straight norm, rather than defending one's "right to say what one is."  Though Yoshino recognizes the law's potential to further (and hinder) liberty's cause, he admits that his "education in law has been an education in its limitations."  Hence, by way of his unsparing accounts of self-realization, he reveals that the struggle against oppression lies not solely in fighting an imagined, monolithic state but as much in intimate discourse with the mother, the father and the colleague who constitute that state.  As healing as it is polemical, this book has tremendous potential as a touchstone in the struggle for universal human dignity.

You can become a leader in that struggle by doing face reading, empathic exploration and aura reading.  Every deeper aspect of life you can read will reveal more truth.

When you can read other people deeper, it helps to open your own heart of compassion.  And by reading yourself, you will understand more clearly the consequences of living without authenticity.

Whatever techniques you use for deeper perception, don’t stop short until you find the magnificent and unique gifts of that person’s soul.

Speech, expression and body language can be used for covering up.  But if you’ll go one step deeper, to the physical face itself, you’ll find a world of information.  For example, large round nostrils relate to a talent for enjoying what money can buy and being resourceful with debt.  The potential challenge, however, is being a huge spender.  If someone with nostrils like these makes a show of being frugal, the cover-up won’t work for a minute—not for a face reader.

Auras whisper the deepest secrets about integrity, sexuality and more.  Someone who covers shows pain somewhere in at least one of the databanks called chakras.  Like Dr. Yoshino, everyone can release stored up fear, humiliation, self-doubt.  And when it’s authentically gone, the aura shows that, too.

In the personal sessions where I help people to overcome blocks in auras, I find that one prevalent problem is covering up what makes a person happy.  If you’ve ever felt so out of touch with your soul that you fear you don’t know any more, I can help you to release the debris in your aura that causes this predicament.  In my experience, it can always be healed.

Ironically, most wicked people don’t have a problem with covering to themselves or to others.  Even if they hide their true intentions from others, they do a great job at following their bliss. (That’s not covering, it’s conniving.)

It’s different for good people who are psychologically aware people or spiritual seekers.  Often we do a really terrible job at keeping our souls happy.  To uncover what really makes you happy is your birthright.  And it needn’t necessarily disrupt your life or cause unwanted drama.

Empaths Under Cover

Dr. Yoshino observes that straight men may suppress their empathy.  I see that everywhere I teach techniques for empaths.  It’s especially common in Japan, where I've observed that 1 in 5 people is an empath.  In America and Europe, it’s 1 in 20 people.  So I’m very glad that in June 2006, the Japanese edition of Empowered by Empathy will be published.

Here’s how I would define being an empath.  You have at least one significant, trainable gift for directly perceiving what it is like to be other people.  Empaths can be male or female, and their gifts may be intellectual, spiritual, environmental or physical, not necessarily emotional.  Either one is born with these gifts or not.  They’re not negotiable, and no amount of covering will make them go away.

Attempting to hide empathic sensitivity is pointless.  It sticks out all over the empath’s aura.  Even if other people aren’t consciously aura readers yet, they will get the message.  Worse still, until you accept the fact that you’re an empath, how can you learn skills?  These make a dramatic difference for quality of life, because an empath who is unskilled—-merely talented—constantly picks up pain from other people.  A skilled empath doesn’t.

In my novel The Roar of the Huntids, I portrayed the development of a woman who goes from an unskilled empath to a skilled empath.  Readers tell me the book brings the topic to life, fleshing out the many ways that unskilled empaths suffer without realizing what is happening.  I also take on a lot of the cover-up culture.

Dr. Yoshino is absolutely right.  Civil rights aren't just about the right to be yourself but also the freedom to reveal yourself as you are—to others, to yourself.
