Tina Brown's hot new biography, The Diana Chronicles, has renewed interest in "The People's Princess."  Comprehensive though Brown's research has been, she has not evidently covered the most fascinating subject of all, how Diana's face physically changed. 

Leave that to face readers like us!  Let's compare three of her photographs:

That first photo may have been softened and airbrushed like crazy.  Still it can't hide Diana's Spencer's down-angled left eye.  (Remember, to tell right from left on a photo, don't worry about the left and right sides of the page.  Pretend you're viewing a real-life person and cross over mentally, as if shaking hands.) 

I know what it's like to be a young thing with a down-angled left eye because I used to be one myself.  Long-term unhappiness in personal life, that's the cause.  The related talent is a deep strength.  One has been through suffering and survived.  Bone-deep knowledge of how to do this can hasten development of compassion for other people's problems. 

Moreover, a down-angled eye can change, after release of the related emotional pain.  This happened for Diana by our second picture.  Maybe that fairytale wedding did the trick.  Whatever the cause, her left eye angle changed. 

CONNECT THE DOTS

To see angles on any part of the face, play Connect the Dots.  With Diana's left eye, imagine a dot in each corner and connect them with an imaginary line. Sure enough, the outer corner has become higher; the line goes up.

Another fascinating alteration for Diana relates to her lip proportions.  Early on, she had an extra-full upper lip,  vertically this was longer than her lower lip.  Perceptive speech is the related talent, and the potential challenge consists of getting on other people's nerves because she talks about a level of truth that they prefer to deny. 

Behold the exact opposite in later pictures.  Diana has achieved what Lailan Young calls "Blarney Lips," where the lower lip has twice the width of the upper lip.  Persuasiveness is the talent.  To appreciate the potential challenge in Diana's case, you need only try a little experiment with your own face.  However full your upper lip may be, you can make it "Do a Diana" by tucking it in, bending it backwards, as it were, inside your mouth. 

How does that feel?  If your answer is "Good," you might want to get yourself a therapist.  In terms of Face Reading Secrets®, the meaning is that you are putting aside expression of your side of things, talking about externals instead.  Maybe you'd find yourself compensating by doing a little more shopping….

WHAT DIDN'T CHANGE 

Two of the VERY strong characteristics of Diana's face never changed.  Notice, for instance, her Priority Areas.  These three facial zones go vertically.  Check them out on yourself to find out which (if any) is the longest:

Area I: Hairline (or where the natural hairline would fall, if hair were available on that particular head) to top of eyebrows

Area II: Eyebrows to lowest part of nose

Area III: Lowest part of nose to chin bottom

On Diana, Area II was the clear winner, meaning that her personality was dominated by ambition.  Facial proportions like these predispose a person to accomplish a great deal.  And isn't this one of the reasons Lady Di became so popular?  She easily could have become merely decorative.  She could have enjoyed her immense social prestige.  But instead she strove to make a difference in the world. 

The potential challenge would have been encountering resistance.  Royals might have preferred to be merely decorative, even if she didn't.  

I don't mean disrespect to the beautiful Diana by calling attention to her ambition or the other qualities that will emerge as this face reading unfolds.  And I hope not to offend anyone when I mention the second unchanging characteristic, her extremely out-angled ears. 

Often her hair, or a flattering camera angle, kept these ear angles from showing, but you can see them clearly in this photo from later in her life:

Here's the item of face data that Diana had in common with Prince Charles.  Out-angled ears go with a talent for social defiance, the need to live by one's own rules.  And didn't she do that!  

Gee, what might the challenge be if you're a highly outrageous person, yet you're supposed to uphold the traditions and breeding expected of British royalty? 

Diana's Traveling Nose 

When I was teaching in England, I showed "Elsie" the chapter about Diana in my advanced face reading book, Wrinkles Are God's Makeup.  This chapter contains comparison photos and a reading of Diana's aura as well as her face.  Of course, I noted that Diana's nose grew slightly narrower after her marriage, which correlated with growing independence in her work as a public figure.  This perfectly matched her secret and growing isolation from the royal family. 

"She had it done," Elsie told me. "I know this for a fact because I am friends with her tennis coach.  She told me that Diana had cosmetic surgery on her nose." 

The job was discreet, at any rate. And, of course, face reading makes use of a reciprocal relationship between the physical face and the soul.  Whether or not Diana's nose was narrowed naturally, the meaning holds true.  

But one unintended consequence of surgery also relates to the connection between inner and outer.  What if a nose job, or other surgery, corresponds to a change that a soul refuses to make?  Then, over time, the facial characteristic reverts.  This, in fact, is what happened with Di.

In our photo where Di wears her tiara, she has significant nose padding.  That changed for a brief time afterwards, as demonstrated in one of the photos, from 1985, used in Wrinkles Are God's Makeup.

The beauty of a nose with more padding is that it corresponds to a soul-level gift for working collaboratively with people.  This was a strength of Diana's and, sure enough, the padding returned, larger than it had been before, by the time of her short-haired photograph. 

Another change to Di's nose was cumulative.  She always had a right-angled nose, and the angling grew more intense over time.  

Here's a surprise for you, I'll bet.  Before reading this article, you thought you knew how Diana looked, right? She is the most photographed woman of all time.  Yet most of her pictures, especially during her later years, used a camera angle that hid the nose angling. Look back over this picture which is typical. 

Nose angling like this is "The Fame Trait."  When a nose consistently angles toward the right side of the face, it suggests a destiny to be well known.  Hmm, could this be true of Diana? 

SECRETS OF DIANA'S EYES 

Diana always had a sanpaku right eye, three whites showing, with the extra one beneath the iris.  You'll see this most clearly in her early photo from 1981 and the late one where she wore a lilac dress. 

It has been said that a sanpaku eye goes with an early death.  

The final point to note about Diana's face is the change to the shape of her eyes.  At the lower half, the shape can be curvy or straight or anything in between. In The Power of Face Reading, I call this The Wariness Index, and assign scores on a scale from 1-10, with 1 being the straightest and 10 being the curviest. 

Diana entered marriage with two eyes that were 10's, maximum curve.  This suggests great openness to strangers, both in public and in private aspects of her life.  Sure, I know about her early reputation as "Shy Di," but The Wariness Index isn't about outer behavior so much as inner behavior.  Was she available to reach out to others emotionally?  Did she allow them to touch her own heart?  At this stage in her life, the answer was, clearly, yes. 

But fast forward to a few years into her marriage, like our picture from 1985.  Her right (public) eye still is a 10.  But her left eye has developed a lower eyelid curve score of 1.  

I first noticed this while writing an article for Redbook Magazine where Diana was one of the people I was asked about.  The photo supplied showed the same thing as our photograph, and this came at a time when the public was just told "Fairytale wedding, great marriage."  I believed it as much as anyone.  Yet here was a big wakeup call.  Clearly, Diana had something happening in her personal life that had caused her to become deeply suspicious of people and loyal only to those who earned her trust.   

Later revelations came about Di's eating disorder, Camilla, and so forth. 

So much evolution in a brief life!
