Your Healing Book
November 20th, 2007 by Rose RosetreeRecent conversation via email informed me about the healing some books can bring. My correspondent supplied this interesting history fact: Most of the novels written by women in the 1840s or so were tear jerkers. In fact, in one of them the protagonist cries on average EVERY OTHER PAGE.”Being witty, he added, “ I found that pretty funny. Today the book would come with a warning label that says, ‘May cause dehydration‘.”
I could write a novel like that one. I think I would give it a simple title, something universal and appealing, like “Tissues.”
How about you? What kind of healing book would you like to bestow upon the world right now? And what would you call it?

These questions are the kinds that I just cannot resist answering. Sometimes healing is not all pretty and flowery and whimsical — sometimes we have to become spiritual warriors. How about books titled “Do Something About It” and “Kick in the Ass”?
Hmm, how about “Copycats Can’t Win: Why the Only Solution that Will Work for You is YOURS” - my inspiration for this mainly comes from my extensive experience in the fitness industry, but I feel it also applies to the healing realm.
So many people want to follow on the heels of others - getting into that guru mentality that they never shake. Sometimes it becomes a bit like idol worship. People go to personal trainers who have a body they want, not realizing that that trainer may just have the genetics for that kind of body. Just following someone else’s process doesn’t mean it will work for YOU.
We can all FEEL what’s right for us, and can embrace our own processes instead of blindly following another’s prescription for more answers. I feel Rose does a great job in encouraging exploration of our own individual gifts - one of the few teachers I’ve had who actually embraces the individuality and validity of each person’s process.
