How Skilled Are You as an Empath?

January 28th, 2008 by Rose Rosetree

Many gifted people are wondering, “What kind of an empath am I?” These empaths are just starting out on the path of becoming skilled.

Being an empath is a common concern for aura readers. Often, you first realize that you’re an empath because you have been experimenting with a technique for reading auras. One minute you’re doing the technique, same as anyone else in your class. The next minute you are having personal experiences, whether physically, emotionally, intellectually or spiritually.

Sometimes an experience is quite subtle, other times it is dramatic, of the “my stomach turned over” variety. In any case, it is very common that reading auras will be different for an empath.I wrote my how-to, “Empowered by Empathy” after having this kind of experience myself, also having noticed experiences of my students when I was teaching them to become aura readers with “Aura Reading Through All Your Senses.”

On the Internet, you will find a lot of strange conversations these days about what it means to be an empath. Also strange are some of the contortions people put themselves through in order to develop skill.

If you think being interested in auras is unusual, that’s just a tiny preparation for how ahead of your time you’ll be if you pursue the topic of becoming skilled as an empath. Yet it’s so important to learn about being an empath, a clear case of “What you don’t know can hurt you.”

My work with empaths has convinced me of two things:

    • First, empaths are way more common than most folks assume, as in 1 in 20 Americans, 1 in 5 Japanese.

    • Second, unless a born empath becomes skilled, you’ll spend your whole life subconsciously picking up other people’s pain.

So try this quiz and have fun exploring how much you know so far about becoming skilled, not merely talented, as an empath.

(BTW, one problem with the quizzes at Tickle is that they wallop you with ads right before the results. To minimize this problem, just give your screen a few minutes, then click to skip all of this silliness. Then you’ll get to your score!)

To comment on the quiz, you know where to click. Here! Looking forward to interacting with you,

    Rose

Also…I suppose this is a good place to mention that I am curious to know what your thoughts and opinions on indigos and crystals are. I just cannot buy into these concepts much. I suspect you do not either since you never mention them.

I think there is something to the Indigo and Crystal thing, but not in the low-vibration way that people sometimes think of the Law of Attraction (think it and it will manifest).

I think Indigo and Crystal energy are real, but that doesn’t mean I think everyone is one or the other or has both energies.

My concern with labels is that it may give people even more incentive not to empower themselves and take charge of their lives, e.g., “I’m a Crystal person and therefore super-sensitive, therefore I have a reason to stop interacting with the rest of humanity” or “I’m an Indigo and have suffered from ADHD my whole life, so I shouldn’t have to work hard because I just can’t focus.”

May I suggest a future blog topic? After having read “Aura Reading Through ALL Your Senses”, I am very intrigued by the idea of the third eye. How can it be expanded? How can people learn to open it up? Why are there people already more spiritually developed with large third eyes? What happens during consultations for “enhancing spiritual experiences” where a “third eye opening” is facilitated?

Julie, you’ve asked good questions, but opening up a third eye is one of the most personal kind of things I facilitate in a session. I can’t say a lot about what is done in general because no two sessions of these are alike. But here is what I can say in response:

That kind of phone session, or in-person session of Energy Spirituality is decribed in this part of my website: http://www.rose-rosetree.com/IndivConsult.htm#experience

If you feel stuck spiritually, you would bring the intention of “Get unstuck” to your session. Depending on your particular version of being stuck, I may be able to facilitate a change. It will be highly individual.

Having an unblocked third eye doesn’t mean that people are more spiritually developed but they can appreciate more clearly the spiritual evolution that they have already earned.

    Hope this helps, Julie.

Ryan and Anita, you’re both onto me. Reading groups of people as Indigo etc. does not interest me. I’m more interested in reading one person at a time, teaching one unique person at a time, empowering people with skills and healing.

If there’s a problem like ADD, I would recommend a session of Regression Therapy. A good place to start reading about it is here: http://www.rose-rosetree.com/RegressionTherapy.htm#choice

Other Blog-Buddies, what are YOUR experiences with Indigo, Crystal, or other cohorts? Share away!

Aura reading and empathy. I think somewhere i have got myself slightly confused. Aura reading - managed this in a workshop. Empathy - one reads people everyday it’s part of life. Empathy and the connection for me is how I relate to everthing, its where I feel most comfortable. At present I think my aura reading pratice has been none existent because there has been a tendancy to put away the empathy skills and say when looking at photos “at this point i am now just an aura reader with no add-ons”. In essence trying to wear a hat that doesn’t fit.

Anyway just been looking at a couple of the photos in the latest ezine, Laura Linney for one. Agree with most of the findings the areas that I don’t is because i lack the subtle nuances in those areas to make a proper distinction.
Not sure if this is an acceptable finding to publish but flicked over the face and was drawn to the ears. Here there seemed to be a quite intense pain in both inner ears at the time of the photo. but then that might just be me. As I recently keep finding out, most of the time it is just me. :-)

Brian, you’re absolutely right about that hat not fitting part.

The simplest way to get beyond this is to decide to trust yourself when you use techniques as an aura reader or empath. Techniques are really important, and although the ones in my books are simple, if you leave out parts, you’re more apt to run into problems.

Most of all my books, for you I would recommend that you go back to Empowered by Empathy and read some of the bits at the beginning.

And congratulations in the ear info. You, just you, are glorious my friend.
