Mathematical Maverick, a GUEST POST by Ryan
February 5th, 2008 by Rose Rosetree
I recently encountered this article in
The article later says “Not only does he favor the teaching of decimals over fractions to elementary school students, he’s also taking on long division, the calculation of square roots and by-hand multiplication of long numbers.” Not surprisingly, this professor’s ideas have stirred up quite a bit of debate.
While I am no math expert, I cannot help but wonder how different my life would be if this professor’s proposals had been implemented when I was younger. This article cites DeTurckas saying that learning fractions could possibly be delayed until after learning calculus, something which I cannot imagine very well.
I also wondered what kind of person would make such proposals, so of course I did an aura reading. The results, although interesting, are not particularly surprising to a person who has read enough auras of people who draw public attention to themselves such as celebrities and politicians.
“His presence in a room” databank at the Root Chakra
His aura expands around him as if to say “Look at me” — not in an overwhelming or larger-than-life way, but you notice his presence in a crowd. The energy of his root chakra is strong and mingles with the energy in his solar plexus.
“Academic/scientific creativity” databank in the Belly Chakra
He has a child-like curiosity which he uses to put passion into his career. Learning and exploring are important to him.
“Power style in the workplace” databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra
He uses his power to get noticed and to get what he wants. His desire for attention is very noticeable here. He may cloak some of his actions as being worldly, but it’s all about him. He is what some people would call “service to self” (as opposed to “service to others”).
“Integrity in the workplace” databank at the Solar Plexus Chakra
His integrity is fine as long as you realize that he is polarized toward the service-to-self paradigm.
“Emotional openness” databank at the Heart Chakra
He notices other people’s emotions but does not show his own very much. Although he is not cold or uncaring, he is more comfortable with intellectual thoughts than with emotions. The previously mentioned energies in his root and lower abdominal chakras would be even stronger if he was not so emotionally closed.
“Communication style in the workplace” at the Throat Chakra
He craftily takes the energy in his solar plexus and folds it into his communication. Again we see a theme of doing and saying things that will further his interests, and his verbal integrity is fine as long you realize that he is working to advance his own self.
“The nature of his spirituality” databank at the Third Eye Chakra
Spirituality is a scary concept, and he struggles with the messages his intuition sends him. His third eye chakra has what I call an auric Achilles’ Heel — a noticeably weak spot in an aura. Strengthening his heart chakra would be easy compared to improving the health of his spiritual life. The conflict in this chakra has grown stronger over the years and will continue to grow unless he actively decides to change this. His aura shows what can happen long-term when a person consistently ignores their intuition.
“Verbalizing his spirituality” databank at the Throat Chakra
While he is comfortable discussing physical life, he does not like to discuss things that science cannot measure concretely. He keeps the fears in his third eye chakra to himself.
BRIEF FACE READING
DeTurck’s inner struggles are externalized in his face through two very noticeable facial
features. [To see his face more clearly, click on this link: and then cut-and-paste the image onto a document, then drag on the corners.]
His chin cleft is a sign of conflict over major life choices, and the vertical forehead line over his third eye, which is noticeably on the left side of his forehead, shows the conflict between his intellect and intuition.
The extreme positioning of this line indicates how private his inner struggle is.

Ryan, excellent job. I’m proud of you.
For the face reading part, I wonder if any Blog-Buddies would like to point out any of the other VERYs on this fascinating face and comment away.
Aura readers, mathemeticians of all kinds, your opinions are most welcome, too.
Dear Ryan,
You did an awesome job!
Not being a face reader, per se, I really appreciate that you added that. It is so nice to have a blog bud share their insights with a “Guest Post”. I am also intrigued by the verbalizing spirituality at the throat chakra.
This is great, Ryan. Nice job!
His priority II area (ambition) seems as big, if not bigger, than area I (ideas). His straight eyebrows (ideas) are really, really low, so he is spontaneous. His eyebrows are also fairly thin, so he prefers doing one task at a time.
His bottom lip is way bigger than his top lip, so he’s a persuasive talker. Also, his cheeks seem low, so he has tolerance for the moral choices of others. In the picture, his jaws look wide, so he has physical stamina and non-physical tenacity. He has out angled ears, which means he is unconventional (fits in with his math ideas).
I looked at a different picture online in which his smile is bigger and shows more teeth in the middle, but narrows down to nothing at either end–it must mean something about not disclosing much to the public.
Brilliant, Ryan. DeTurck doesn’t seem to be someone I’d like to be friends with, haha.
Maybe we should do readings of each other among us blog-buddies and see what we come up with!
