Hello,I am just curious whether or not you think empaths have a responsibility not to use their abilities without other peoples permission. Unfortunately I am what you might call a talented but unskilled empath so at the moment I have no choice but when I do obtain skill I think it is something I must really consider. Is it ethically right to perform readings, sense other peoples feelings ETC without their permission? It is almost like opening some ones diary or going through their emails you learn their secrets and that seems like an invasion of privacy to me…

ROBERT, what a great question! You score a double comment.
Doing any kind of reading, or consciously attempting to join with other people energetically — is something that empaths naturally do.
The big problem here is not ethics. It is that even WITHOUT doing an Empath Merge consciously, on purpose, you are sure to be doing it umpteen times a day, faster than a split second.
And every time that you are doing it, you may not register any information consciously but you are taking some of that person’s STUFF directly into your aura.
That weighs you down, causes confusion about who you really are, and generally causes problems for any talented-but-not-yet-skilled-empath.
That’s why it might be a priority for you, in this new year, to become a skilled empath.

Becoming a skilled empath doesn’t need to take a whole lot of time. Less than learning to ride a bike, for instance! But be wary of anyone on the Internet or elsewhere who says you must just slap on an invisible shield or tighten your boundaries.
People who advocate this are not able to read auras yet, or else it would be very clear to them what happens. The empath continues to take on STUFF from others, only now there is also a big fat shield or “boundary.”
Structures like these don’t work for the purpose intended. Ironically, they do make it hard for other people to get to know you. And armoring yourself can discourage your making new friends — people who would be appropriate to have in your life — making it hard for them to even FIND you.
I’ll address the other part of your question in a separately.
About Robert’s question regarding the ethics of doing an Empath Merge without permission, let’s throw this question open (of course) to all you Blog-Buddies.
A big part of my ethics is that nobody has the right to tell others what their ethics should be.
In my opinion, Robert, you have the right to use every form of Deeper Perception and surface perception available to you. Aura Reading, Face Reading, and Empath Merge all fall into this category of “Inquiring minds want to know.”
You do NOT have the right to tell strangers about what you find, unless the person being read has given permission. And becoming a celebrity, auditioning for a reality show, putting your photo on Facebook, etc., all that does count as giving permission.
For more private people, if any are left, you would ask permission before sharing. For instance, in a previous post you will find an Aura Reading of my god-daughter Grace Cipriani. Before doing the public Aura Reading, I asked for permission from her and her mother.
People are curious by nature. When you meet a stranger, Robert, do you allow yourself to check out the hairstyle and shoes? Do you dare to notice pimples?
You have the right to read anything on anyone, so long as you honor the public/private aspect. Except there is ONE exception that occurs to me. Okay, one more comment to come in this series.
Here is the one exception I know about asking permission before you do Aura Reading or an Empath Merge. This relates to a question I was asked last month, while a guest at Donna Eden and David Feinstein’s wonderful Energy Medicine workshop.
“Donna says we must always ask permission before reading people’s auras. Don’t you agree?”
For my purposes, for students in my workshops, I don’t agree. But that is because I am not a teacher of Energy Medicine (much as I respect it and use it, personally).
If you do any kind of healing and you are wearing your Healer’s Hat, it is a very different thing to start Aura Reading. As a healer, you may think you’re just diagnosing but you probably have a habit of sending out energy through yourself as a healer.
To protect yourself from being drained, as well as honor the rights of another person, you wouldn’t officially do healing of any kind without asking permission. So, of course, you wouldn’t do Aura Reading or Empath Merge, either.
Hi All,
I was at Donna Eden’s Energy Medicine for Women conference last month when I had the pleasure to meet Rose (and become her partner during all the energy exercises). BTW, Rose is awesome, extremely intuitive and very gentle and loving. I have since had a personal session with her.
About permission to reading a person’s aura (or face, or physical stance): at the conference, when the question came up, my first thought was, c’mon, people, this is the aura. In the physical world, are we not “reading” the meaning of the clothes perople are wearing, their hairstyles, weight, etc? Even if not consciously, we are taking in that information.
As the universe is becoming more and more energy conscious, instead of unconsciously reading a person’s “energy” imprint, i.e., their aura (whether you beleive it or not, you are always being influenced by and influencing others with your energy field) and/or body language, why not learn how to do it consciously?
That is what Rose is here to help us with… becoming more conscious of what we are doing on anyway. And knowing and working with Rose, my intuition is that she is always coming from a loving space.
I could go on, but you get my message.
