    Study Drugs, an Empath’s Perspective

February 5th, 2009 by Rose Rosetree

Empath Novel by Rose RosetreeAlthough study drugs are in the news now, it’s hard to find photos of kids taking them. Popular though Adderall and Ritalin are in the college culture, students know they could get in trouble legally by going public. Without photos, I can’t do Aura Reading or Empath Merges to tell directly what’s going on with study drugs, apart from reading about the well documented side effects.

But I do have perspective based on Aura Reading and my work with Empath Empowerment (training naturally talented Empaths to become Skilled Empaths).

When are researchers, parents, or students themselves going to connect the dots? Multi-tasking and self-induced attention deficit — hello!!!!! Our kids are training themselves to be unable to study without music, to watch TV without texting, to take a simple walk down the street without gabbing into the cell “I’m here. Where are you?”

If your first act on waking is to grab your cell, did you ever ask “Why?” How far into your day do you go before giving one moment of conscious attention to your physical body?

Our Twittering population doesn’t have to go all twitter-pated. We just need to stop the constant self-distraction.

When I train natural empaths to become skilled empaths, the process includes paying attention to the whole self, one chunk at a time. Everyone, empath or non-empath, was born with a variety of faculties for paying attention: Intellect, Emotions, Physical Body, Social Way of Being in the Environment, etc.

What happens as soon as someone starts multi-tasking? You’re coming from your intellect, only your intellect. Maybe you think you’re paying attention to the feelings in a love song as you do the laundry. Or you figure you’re boosting your workout by reading dieting tips in a magazine.

Nope, you’re having ideas about emotions or thoughts about taking better care of your body. Feeling feelings is different.  Physical self-awareness is not all in your head. Whenever you multi-task, regardless of what you are doing, only one part of you is in charge. It’s your intellect, Silly.

That intellect can get just plain tired. It also makes a poor substitute for your emotions or physical self-awareness. Some multi-tasking is inevitable, though it’s never as efficient as we pretend to ourselves. But multi-tasking as a way of life? If you don’t want to become a slave to uppers, reconsider.

It’s tough enough being a college kid without self-inflicted scatter brains. I’d like to see a scientific study where the main treatment for study problems consisted of my turn-off techniques as described in “Empowered by Empathy.” Plus the little matter of decreeing, “No multi-tasking. Period.”
