For the Best Aura Reading, USE YOUR WORDS

The best advice about Aura Reading I’ve read in years comes from an article called “Smell Bound.” I read it courtesy of United Hemispheres Magazine, March 2009 issue.

Okay, the article was mostly about wine tasting, and he never mentioned Aura Reading specifically. Still, if you have studied Aura Reading in books like “Aura Reading Through All Your Senses” and “Read People Deeper,” you’re familiar with the term “synesthesia.”

Synesthesia means using all your senses together, something done by wine tasters and aura readers and… really, anyone… who goes deeply into any sensory experience.

Writer Edward Lewine (note his name, perfect for a wine-tasting article) quotes some of the over-the-cork language being used today by wine critics:

• Wet pebbles
• Gooseberries
• Salted butter
• Blanched almond
• Braised chestnut
• Fig paste
• Hoisin sauce
• Melted licorice
• Scorched earth
• Seaweed
• Saddle leather

British wine critic Auberon Waugh was quoted, suggesting that wine taster’s language be camped up for entertainment value. He wrote, “Bizarre and improbable side-tastes should be proclaimed” and suttested, “mushrooms, rotting wood, black treacle, burned pencils, condensed milk, sewage, the smell of French railway stations or ladies’ underwear.”

SMELL VS. TASTE

Ready to be shocked, shocked? What is the ratio between the number of tastes the human nose can distinguish vs. the number of smells:

6:10,000

Yes, just as the human eye that can distinguish 10,000 colors, the human nose can find 10,000 fragrances, odors, and stinks.

Here comes the part of Lewine’s article that really thrilled me:

“The explanation for why most of us don’t perceive all those scents comes as a big shock to me. According to Danielle Reed, a psychologist at Monell who researches the genetic causes of variation in tasting ability, the issue is not biological but linguistic.

“‘The expert has a well-developed brain-map of odors,’ Reed says. ‘Untrained people can smell something and recognize it, but they can’t give it a name.’”

IMPROVE YOUR BRAIN-MAP

To improve your brain-map for wine scents, Reed recommends drinking a lot of wine and try to describe it in words. 

Wine drinking isn’t recommended for Aura Reading. (In fact, I recommend never doing Aura Reading while intoxicated or stoned or sleepy or angry. It just won’t be accurate.)

However, the need to find language is built into my system of Aura Reading Through All Your Senses.

During a recent workshop, one participant admitted she hadn’t read the class description very carefully. (Or at all, really.) So “Hannah” came to the Aura Reading Intensive expecting that I was going to teach everyone how to see the colours, just like a Kirlian photo, and then I would teach the set meanings for each of the colours. Ta da! Everyone would become that kind of aura reader.

Talk about naming! I call that “The kindergarten version of Aura Reading.” Many people expect that.

What Hannah learned to do — and do very well, I might add — was to learn about her gifts for Aura Reading, then learn a variety of techniques for perceiving the information in a person’s aura, including her own. I also taught the Inner Dictionary technique for interpreting the information.

A very big part of that process is “Use your words” or “Write something down.” Hannah and my other students started off a bit timidly, even reluctantly. But with practice, they found their flow, finding ways to describe non-verbal experiences. Soon the words came thick and fast… and brilliantly.
