Preparing to Read More of the Religious Right

September 25th, 2009 by Rose Rosetree

rose rosetree, aura readingTHANKS SO MUCH, all you Blog-Buddies. The comments at the Read the Righties Contest are showing me that you’ve been paying attention to some of the trends and personalities shaping American political life today.  Keep ‘em coming.

It’s so common for people interested in Deeper Perception, or mind-body-spirit, or healing of any kind, to be blissfully apolitical.

And that’s perfectly fine in terms of supporting a non-judgmental attitude toward humanity. That, in turn, is such a huge part of New Age culture. And such a worthy goal in life!

My perspective changed, however, after I moved to the Washington, D.C. area. Another wakeup call came during the presidential election in 2000.  I felt that election was terribly important. Not only did I follow it avidly. I did something unheard of, in my rather bashful political life. I asked people I knew how they were planning to vote.

Their lack of interest shocked me. The absence of information, or even paying attention, meant that these bright, spiritually oriented people were giving their power away.

During the ugly events that followed, I decided to come out more doing Aura Reading in public. Aura Reading of politicians — could anything be more counter-culture?

Being an Aura Reading Political Gadfly

Personally, I find it very awkward as a spiritual teacher and healer, being in the role of Deeper Perception gladfly.

Unless people speak up, however, lies count with the public. Hello, it’s the turning point of Kali Yuga!

So Fox News proclaims “Fair and balanced” when it couldn’t be less so. These days, they’re even creating political demonstrations and reporting on them as, supposedly, objective sources.

Have you seen the video with the young producer from Fox News egging on the crowd to cheer, as if a political demonstration were a mere talk show? As if the role of a “fair and balanced” or even “slightly professional” TV news producer today were to create the news to her liking!

While people believe whatever they’re told, what we really need is Superman to fly in with his red-and-blue cape, setting things straight. Except wait! Superheroes are fiction. We are real. Energetic literacy beats the superhero abilities, anyway.

I am very glad to see you write this. I too have been very bothered by the trend I see of spiritually aware people sticking their heads in the sand. Of course, sometimes I stick my head in the sand too. It’s hard not to!

I read a wonderful book some years ago titled “We’ve had a 100 years of Psychotherapy and the world is getting worse” by James Hillman and Michael Ventura and they talk about how, as psychology has become obsessed with personal growth we have turned the looking glass inwards to the individual and have become dangerously myopic to what is happening around us. We have given up our power to affect what happens to us.

For example, when a train is heading straight towards you and you are strapped to the track you would be much better served to try to get free from the straps then to dialogue with yourself about how anxious you are feeling!

Anyway, after reading that book I began watching the news again (the Daily Show I mean :-) ) and sending letters to senators and volunteering. I highly recommend it.

When I was little I believed “the best and brightest” were to be found in our nation’s capital, serving the people of our country to their best ability.

Another factor was that I thought, that I, as a single individual had no power in the vast scheme of nations.

Who knows if it would have made any difference, but I would respect myself more today if I had called my Congressmen the day we invaded Iraq, and every day thereafter to protest the criminal waste and destruction.

I would have at least be doing what I could on my end.

    Dear Suzanne,

I have the book you mentioned, written in dialogue form by James Hillman and Michael Ventura. I could not agree more with what you said.

BTW, dear Rose put me out there to do an Aura Reading on James Hillman in December, 2007, (the 20th I think). Check it out..it is in the blog archives:-) James Hillman is an interesting fellow. “The Soul’s Code” is a favorite of mine, though I cannot find it currently.

EXCELLENT, Suzanne. I’m also a huge fan of Hillman, and I did enjoy “The Soul’s Code.”

All you Blog-Buddies, don’t be shy about writing an Aura Reading or Face Reading of anyone. Send it to me as an email, rose[at]rose-rosetree.com. Also please send a link to the photo used as the basis for the reading.

We haven’t had a Guest Post for a long time!
