Face Reading Angel Playwright Tony Kushner
January 31st, 2010 by Rose Rosetree
Recently I did a radio interview about Face Reading where the broadcaster insistently demanded “something easy that anyone could do just walking down the street.”
My interviewer, “Daisy,” was onto something. Many beginners at energetic literacy figure that if you can learn one, quick easy thing, that’s all you really need.
According to that idea, fortified with that great universal tip, you’re an instant expert. Perhaps that might even encourage a newbie to learn more Face Reading some day.
Alas, this is a myth. Joe Sixpack doesn’t stroll down the street, look at Tony Kushner and locate the one sign of What Matters Most, then give himself a self-satisfied pat on the shoulder. There is no one quick tip to start anyone doing quality physiognomy – or any other discipline of energetic literacy.
If you want to explore Face Reading, I suggest you keep reading this post or similar ones where someone who has studied the discipline introduces you to the surprising depth of it all. And here in today’s blog post, we’re peeking into the ancient art of reading faces for character.
Of course, any newbie has wisdom and could be a superb Face Reader. But is talent a substitute for skill? To get the best results with any talent, surely it’s worth taking a bit of time to learn a framework. Then all that great intuitive wisdom can develop still further.
Many of you Blog-Buddies are expert face readers. But if you’re not yet, no worries. Here’s a start. For instance, many newbies to physiognomy don’t know these four basics. Do you?
- Expression reading is not Face Reading.
- Deciding whether someone is handsome or not isn’t Face Reading.
- Sorting someone into a racial category, age category, or weight category is not Face Reading.
- Figuring out if somebody has had cosmetic surgery is not Face Reading.
Instead, Face Reading means that you slow down and check out one item of physical face data at a time. Then you interpret it.
I like to use the system of Face Reading Secrets(R), of course. It’s the only trademarked system for physiognomy in the U.S.
For inspiration, you can find Face Reading FAQs as well. And, of course, you can learn a great deal more from The Power of Face Reading and other books at the official Rose Rosetree website.
To read along with me, use the photo of Tony Kushner at the start of this post. Or use this Face Reader Link for his photo. Then you can copy it and pull on the corners to enlarge this brilliant man. Call it Act 1, Scene 1.
Otherwise, do what smart people walking down the street have done forever. Eavesdrop!
So there is a tip after all, Daisy.
Eavesdrop as this Face Reader checks out a favorite of Blog-Buddy Suzanne, the fabulous playwright Tony Kushner, author of “Angels in America.”
Face Reading Item #1, Lip Proportions
Compare the fullness of upper and lower lips. That’s a 1:5 ratio, suggesting that Tony is one of the most eloquent, persuasive communicators you’ll ever meet.
Potential challenge, especially having such a VERY strong version of this talent: Feeling a huge creative drive to communicate, and having the rest of life suffer as a result?
Face Reading Item #2, Nose Length
Tony’s nose is definitely long, in proportion with the rest of his face. In Face Reading Secrets, the corresponding talent applies to his career. It’s being able to design complex one-of-a-kind projects, being a strategic and systematic thinker about the entire construction.
Potential challenge: Being allergic to routine work, especially the assembly-line-worker variety? (Or the quick, easy version of playwriting that would have delighted Daisy, my radio interviewer.)
Face Reading Item #3 Nose Angling
As an experienced face reader, you need to tell left from right. Unless looking in a mirror, reading anyone in person or via photo or screen, you need to flip over, as if shaking hands.
If you do this with Kushner, you’ll notice that he has more nose on the left side of his face than the right. It’s what I call a “Left-Angled Nose.”
This goes with a talent for pouring an uncommonly high degree of personal passion and meaning into his work. John Lennon and Elvis Presley both had this — at the start of their careers anyway.
Potential challenge: Pouring your personal energy and passion into work is never easy. If your subject matter goes truly counter-culture — as is happening with the great civil rights movement of our era, full rights for persons of all genders and sexual orientations — how exhausting could that be?
With that left-angled nose, could Tony be receiving even more heartbreak and fatigue than others suffer in such a prejudiced society? The comparison would be to someone equally hard-working, except for that soul-level commitment to give his all through his work. (That soul-level choice is what shapes a left-angled nose.)
Face Reading Item #4 Priority Area
Check out the three vertical lengths of Kushner’s face:
- Hairline to top of eyebrow (Priority Area #1)
- Top of eyebrow to lowest part of nose (Priority Area #2)
- Lowest part of nose to bottom of chin (Priority Area #3)
Which was longest? On his right side, that would be Priority Area 1.
For any writer, that’s a big asset. Excellence at thinking, understanding patterns, choosing the right words and perfect timing — abilities like these go with having this priority area dominate. So Tony has a big advantage for his powerhouse career.
Potential challenge: Being a writer, living as a writer, could he find the world of action to be personally harsh, even unwelcoming?
Face Reading Item #5 Tony’s Left Eye
Take a good look, comparing the size and height of Tony’s eyes. No it isn’t just the photo angle or lighting, which have been artfully designed to minimize the many big assymetries of his face.
His left eye is both larger and higher. (Remember to cross over, face reading a photo.)
The corresponding talent is the ability to notice feelings, energies, inner workings of life — noticing them more than objective reality. Tony is, thus well aware of what could be, more than “powers that be.”
Potential challenge: Not gaining the respect he is due by those powers that be?
Face Reading Tony Kushner – Conclusion
What a mega-talented man! Our brief face reading has highlighted Tony Kushner’s multi-level sensitivity, the huge power for communication, and also the very human vulnerability.
Would the casual Joe Sixpack, giving him a quick glance in the street, have a clue? Like me, I suspect, Tony isn’t a fan of the glib surface “Let’s pretend we know all.” In his way, with plays that will live long after him, and more plays to come, Tony Kushner is a hero of energetic literacy.

Great reading Rose, thanks! But he is not late! Tony Kushner is still alive and well. Don’t scare me like that!
Hi Rose,
I am interested in taking your face reading course. I have read the mentoring page on your site. I just wanted to know if your course is very indepth. I have most of your books, :The power of face reading, Wrinkles are God’s makeup and read people deeper. They are all very intersting and i learn a lot from them. What will I learn differenly from taking your course?
Many thanks
Michelle
SUZANNE, Omigosh, how did I hear that? More important, how can I make that right? I’m going to go back and fix the original post. But let the blog-comment record show, I goofed.
Goofed, then fixed!
MICHELLE, your interest in my Face Reading Correspondence Course is great. Thanks for asking your question, which resulted in my just slapping my head. I really do have quite a bit of improvement room as a marketer, don’t I!
Within a few days I will improve the description at my website and then also do some cut-and-paste here.
For now, you can be sure that the only reason I offer it is because it is a quality program that brings a depth to face reading that you can’t get any other way.
Again, thank you so much for asking.
