Who is in charge, you or your guides?

May 10th, 2010 by Rose Rosetree

    Exploring a very personal choice

This blog is service-oriented, as in existing to help YOU, my Blog-Buddies.

    • Sometimes I entertain you (or even attempt to shed political insight) by sharing face readings, aura readings, empath merges of people in the news.
    • Sometimes I educate you about empath empowerment or energetic literacy, the emerging skills of this third millennium.
    • Aura healing is another main category, as you can see from our CATEGORIES column.

All these topics can be considered controversial, given mainstream culture. Occasionally I venture into topics that are not only counter-culture but really, really personal. Today is one of those explorations. So I want to give a vital disclaimer right at the outset.

You are the one who decides about the topic of how you relate to your Celestial Guidance Team.

Your self-authority is precious. It matters that you know yourself to be  in charge of your human life.

Honoring your self-authority supports your integrity as a reader and  mine as a writer and teacher about “the woo-woo” — a.k.a., mind-body-spirit, the metaphysical, the spiritual, even the paranormal.

Okay, given that, recent interactions with clients prompts me to ask you this question:

At this point in your life, who do you consider to be mostly in charge? Who takes responsibility for little decisions in life, like which brand of toothpaste to buy? When you have bigger choices to make, whom do you trust?

    Your favorite authority figure

When your favorite authority is YOU, that counts as “self-authority.” Even if you get help from others, that’s different from the “Yes, dear” school of making life choices. Other common alternatives to taking control of one’s life include:

    • “I don’t know”
    • “What is everyone else doing?”
    • “Better ask Mom/Dad/my minister/my guru.”
    • “Who cares? I’ll take another toke of my medical marijuana and go with the flow.”
    • “What would Jesus do?” or “What would God have me do?”
    • And for many a New Ager, the well meant strategy is, “I’ll ask my angels/guides.”

Some of these choices sound more virtuous, or spiritually ambitious, than others. But any one of them could slow down your soul’s evolution and diminish your quality of life.

    Putting angels in charge

In theory, it sounds great. Vibrationally, humans are slower and duller than beings on The Other Side. So, in some ways, any angel or spirit guide knows more than you.

Undoubtedly you’ve heard that you have a guardian angel plus a couple of long-term spirit guides. Did you also know that, by now, you have a whole angel committee?

Yep, you get a new angel to help you every time you start a new kind of work, need a new kind of help for a human relationship, study something new in depth, have an initiation into Reiki, etc.

By now, you could have well over 100 angels in your personal committee or Celestial Guidance Team. You are the CEO.

Without your making any effort to consciously consult — or use a pendulum — or beg for guidance — your Celestial Guidance Team exists to serve you. So the usual mechanism for working with your team goes like this:

    You feel in charge.

    You ARE in charge.

You evolve spiritually by making your own decisions as a human and by staying in charge, to the best of your ability.

In case of life-threatening emergency, someone from your Celestial Guidance Team will step in. (These are the flashy intervention experiences, like having an angel grab the steering wheel of your car to prevent a crash.)

Otherwise, counsel from Celestial Guidance Team is whispered into your ear/subconscious mind/heart in the form of thoughts, feelings, intuitions.

This input may seem indistinguishable from other input you get from all the wisdom stored in your subconscious mind, plus all the information available to your conscious mind in the here-and-now, plus relevant memories that can easily be accessed by your conscious mind.

Additionally, of course, there is input from any authority figure or strategy for making choices, including “Whatever” from the list noted previously.

What is the neat trick you get to do as a human? Evaluating all those resources, YOU GET TO DECIDE.

Spiritual addiction can include guide addiction

In previous posts, Blog-Buddies, we have had conversations around spiritual addiction. This is a (so-far) little known problem. It spreads like dandelions in the garden of the mind-body-spirit community.

With spiritual addiction, a person’s aura is distorted, with many of the chakra databanks not functioning well. Only certain third eye chakra databanks are really big, such as “Connecting to my angels.”

How does spiritual addiction happen? Mostly the sweet eagerness of a spiritual seeker gets a person off track. The seeker loses touch with human feelings and forgets how to take pleasure in human reality.

Because spiritual addiction shows clearly enough at the level of auric modeling, other people respond to the problem, even if consciously nothing is noticed.

But the person with spiritual addiction feels increasingly isolated socially, disrespected in career, financially diminished, sexually lonely, increasingly desperate to serve others/heal others/become rich and famous/live only for God.

Not to worry, this cycle is very reversible. I have helped hundreds of clients reverse it. My book “Let Today Be a Holiday,” helps. So do common sense lifestyle choices.

Sometimes it’s also necessary to remove an energetic sub-routine, cut certain cords of attachment, facilitate an exorcism, or use skills of Spiritual Cleansing and Protection (like those taught in my annual workshop by that name, viewable at the official Rose Rosetree website).

But often the cycle can change through education. Hence this blog post!

And one of the very easiest ways to start changing the cycle of spiritual addiction is to question the role you have given your Celestial Guidance Team.

    The problem with Celestial Guidance

Everyone has this in common. Whether we live on The Other Side or we live here at Earth School, until we gain spiritual enlightenment, all of us want to be more.

Give us an inch and we’ll take a mile. Give us a plate of free cookies, we’ll eat.

Humans are that way and even the loveliest psychic-level beings, like angels and guides, are the very same way.

Archangels, like Archangel Michael, and Ascended Masters, like Jesus and Kwan Yin, are not that way. They are perfected beings. Whenever you consult one of these Divine Beings, you will get an inspired answer. The energy will help you to move forward. The information will bring wisdom about life lessons.

With all respect, however, Divine Beings aren’t your best resource for choosing which brand of toothpaste to buy. They don’t give diet advice, or tell you which supplements from the health food store are best for your body. That’s like asking Microsoft founder Bill Gates to help you find a new box of paper clips from the supply closet in the mailroom.

If Gladys says, “Archangel Michael told me which brand of toothpaste to buy,” the advice might have come from an astral entity calling himself “Archangel Michael.” Or idealistic Gladys may be doing some wishful thinking.

When Gladys understands the basic differences between Astral or Psychic beings like entities versus Divine or Etheric Beings, she won’t confuse the two. It will be a Tina Fey-style “Deal Breaker,” when her connection with “Archangel Michael” includes instructions for toothpaste purchasing or paperclip location.

Is Gladys still special and important? Sure.

No matter how special or pure or important any human being is, when we seek guidance in everyday matters, it’s not going to come from the Divine Level, the realm of spirit and akasha. Either you’re going to make a Human Level decision or you’re going to seek help at the Psychic Level by consulting angels and guides.

And the big guidance problem happens when a person starts depending on a psychic source, like one’s Celestial Guidance Team. Sometimes a person does perpetual pendling (using a pendulum). Or a person constantly asks or prays or channels.

This well meant checking can get ridiculous. In the name of spiritual development, people are so willing to outsource even the most basic decisions. I wonder if it gets to the point where a person pulls out a pendulum to ask, “Is it okay for me to pee? Do I have the go-ahead to try for a #2?”

Of course, an Astral Level being will cheerfully help you out. Your Celestial Guidance Team is service oriented. Random astral entities, outside that team, will like the human attention and feel flattered (plus they can start draining energy from your aura like exacting a kind of ATM fee).

All astral beings want to be bigger and more important, just like you.

But becoming dependent on a Psychic Level being doesn’t mean being “more spiritual” or being Enlightened. It doesn’t guarantee that you’ll bypass human problems. The only thing that’s really guaranteed is that, with all respect, you will slow down your Human Level evolution.

    Changing things

Consider this little experiment. For a couple of weeks, try this and see what happens to your quality of life:

    1. If you have been consulting your Celestial Guidance Team on a regular basis, explain that you’re respectfully putting yourself back in charge of your human life. If they have advice, your Team members are requested: Tell it to me so your advice will seem like the rest of my human thoughts and feelings.
    2. If you have been dong channeling or mediumship, cut that out. It’s just a couple of weeks, remember. You can always go back. Use your human abilities to sort out your human life.
    3. When you do your prayers (personally, I do one set each, morning and night), sure, tell your Celestial Guidance Team that you love them. Thank them profusely. Or otherwise, check in and communicate, briefly. But that’s it. Afterwards you go back to being human and being in charge of your human life.
    4. Put your pendulum away. Do muscle testing only when you want to find out something about your physical body, like which Vitamin D supplement to buy from the health food store.
    5. In decisions big and small, find human ways to make your choices. Use self-authority. Ask questions. Figure things out.

You’ll learn and grow from your experiences. That learning will be cumulative, too.

As for your Celestial Guidance Team, they may be way happier that way. Because their job is to support you and your human evolution, right?

This was really eye-opening. Most of these things never occured to me.

Ever since I discovered I can chat with them during meditations I thought I had to contact them to improve my empath skills.

Of course that was an assumption on my part. I just noticed that ever since finding out I am an empath, my abilities improved immensely when I started meditating and chatting with them.

I really didn’t look forward to it though most of the time. I viewed it as homework I had to do several times a week to continue improving my talents/skills.

I felt bad for dragging my feet and guilty for not wanting to chat/ask for guidance. Now I see I do not have to feel that way. =)

I did ask them for guidance one time before a session with you because I couldn’t decide between two cords to cut. I needed their help in deciding which one was the “yuckier” one lol. You confirmed they were right – it was pretty yucky! Thanks for this insightful post.

BRIDGET, your insightful comment has inspired a new post. I’ll only be using a bit of it for “Outsourcing Your Life?” so I want to thank you here for the entire comment, every word.

    Very insightful, thank you Rose.

Intuitively, I’ve kinda thought that there was something amiss with this set up. Admittedly, in the past, sometimes thought that I was missing out, or not “special,” or that this type of communication was a goal in itself. Your post rings true, and I appreciate your clarity in thought, as always.

Two points of interest in particular: how some of this communication is draining (I liked your atm fee analogy – you mean psychologically/emotionally draining and aurically draining, correct? There’s a distinction here I can’t quite put my finger on yet.); and how there are distinct levels that you are choosing to get your information from, and they all may have a higher perch than us, but they all have access to limited information (so buyer beware!).

Whenever I read your words about self-authority – I’m always struck by your past. And how hard won this concept was for you (in the context of being a former guru slave – my words, not yours), it brings such depth to your perspective… your willingness to take a cold hard look at what used to be sacred to you, yet treating the past with dignity, and share your experience without shame.

Now being comfortable with what it means to be human.

To use what is distinctly human, and here and now, on earth.

And to more to the point of this post, even though our culture represses these aspects of spirituality, there are options other than reactionary zealotry. This cultural tide creates yet another free pass for being personally passive, and again, giving away our self-authority and responsibility to thrive in the human realm.
