Which Type Empath Am I? 15 Kinds of Empath

type empath, kind empath
Which type empath? Introducing 15 different kinds of empaths. Are you any of these?

Which type empath? Or not an empath at all?

Right here and now, let’s survey all 15 different types of empath. Do you know which kind(s) of empath you are? Knowing that can be so helpful if you’ve been wondering…

Am I An Empath?

If you are, that’s great. I can help you to use your full potential as an empath. A skilled empath!

As an empath coach, teaching the only trademarked system in America to help empaths, I would love for every empath in the world to be skilled. Helping you to learn about your gifts is the start of the skill set I teach, Empath Empowerment®.

Nothing about that empowerment process is hard. It just takes a bit of time, a little patience.

Today, for instance, I’m not going to give you some quick-but-incomplete list. Instead I will introduce you the full list of empath gifts, which means 15 types of empath. Not just 2 or 3 or 5, for heaven’s sake.

You deserve to find out which type or types of empath you are. (And have been since birth.)

Is everybody an empath? No, only 1 in 20 people was born as an empath.

Every Type Empath Has This in Common

Two things.

FIRST, every empath was born with at least one gift for directly experiencing what it is like to be another person.

That can be a huge deal, a great advantage in life, once the empath has developed skill at using each lifelong talent.

SECOND, no empath was born skilled.

Just born talented. 🙂

Getting skills? That’s up to Lucky Us.

Skills must be learned. And until an empath learns effective skills, unfortunately, that empath will suffer.

But no worries! You can learn more about getting good empath skills at the end of this article. Now let’s get on with our survey, so helpful if you’ve ever wondered, “What kind of empath am I?”

Well, you might be more than one kind of empath. If you have even one type of empath talent, you qualify. Consider yourself an empath!

Empath Type #1. Physical Intuition

With this kind of empath gift, sometimes you are aware of what is happening in someone else’s body, e.g., “Joe has a headache.”

Are you trying to know? Nope, you just know.

As a skilled empath, you will be able to help people with your accurate knowledge.

Empath Type #2. Physical Oneness

With this kind of empath gift, the way you receive information is personal. In your body, you feel another person’s physical way of being right now, e.g., When with Joe, you develop a headache.

Really, this headache belongs to Joe.

Oboy, is this type of empath gift confusing! However, once you learn the skills of Empath Empowerment, you will be able to help people with the vivid knowledge you receive about what is going on with them physically. Plus… you won’t be either suffering or confused.

Empath Type #3. Intellectual Empath Ability

With this kind of empath gift, you move into someone else’s intellectual wavelength, e.g., You might find yourself using longer words than usual while talking to Gladys. Later you realize that Gladys always uses long words.

No this is not mind reading. Simply information. Okay, it’s also potentially valuable information.

As a skilled empath, you can help others by being an expert communicator. If you’re doing any kind of teaching or public speaking, you’ll do an extra-good job because it’s as though you can get inside the other person’s head. In a totally ethical way, of course. 🙂

And imagine how much this empath gift + skill can help you to write a screenplay or negotiate a business deal or perform as a singer or actor or dancer!

Another example: Near the start of every session with a client, I do a Skilled Empath Merge. This helps us improve communication fast.

Since this type of empath gift is one of the ones I was born with — plus I’ve become a skilled empath — Intellectual Empath Ability helps me to notice (and say) what will be most helpful for my client.

Empath Type #4. Emotional Intuition

With this kind of empath gift you are aware of what is happening in somebody else’s emotions, even if the other person is hiding some of that. e.g., Joe acts cheerful but feels worried.

As a skilled empath, you will be able to cut through the play-acting and denial. Every empath has talent for finding the truth, you know. Emotional Intuition is very useful if you do any kind of work to help other people to grow emotionally.

Or, hey, if you just want to know what is really going on with your friends, like Joe and Gladys.

If you have Emotional Intuition, you might want to become a skilled empath just so that you can be a better friend to your friends!

Empath Type #5. Emotional Oneness

With this next kind of empath gift you also learn the truth about what is going on with another person’s feelings. Only the knowledge arrives differently than with Emotional INTUITION. With Emotional ONENESS, what happens?

Within YOURSELF… you feel another person’s emotions, e.g., You start feeling worried. Really, this worrying is caused by having done an unskilled empath merge with Gladys.

As a skilled empath, you will be able to help your friend Gladys much more effectively than being an unskilled empath.

Definitely, you will have more emotional stability and a stronger sense of yourself.

Empath Type #6. Spiritual Intuition

With this kind of empath gift you have the privilege of experiencing how someone else connects to God, e.g., Going to church along with Joe, you sample the flavor of God being taught by his priest.

And this happens even if you know nothing about Joe’s religion.

As a skilled empath, you will have much greater wisdom and compassion about spiritual life, and the many faces of God.

Empath Type #7. Spiritual Oneness

With this kind of empath gift you have a direct experience of how someone connects to the Divine.

In church with Joe, you will be singing that hymn or whatever and it won’t just be words and a tune. You’ll experience the same kind of inspiration that went into creating that particular hymn.

As a skilled empath, you will grow spiritually in ways that others might envy.

Empath Type #8. Animal Empath

With this kind of empath gift you know what it is like to be a particular animal.

Just yesterday, one empath with this gift described it to me this way:

“Where I live, around this time of year, there are loads of centipedes.

To me, every single centipede is unique. I have never seen two alike.

And if I let myself take the time, I will experience a particular centipede like a big package of information that reaches me in just a split second.”

As a skilled empath, you will be able to help pets and their owners. As for being effective with any work that involves animals, wow!

There are animal lovers. And then there are animal lovers who happen to also have talent and skill as animal empaths. Quite a huge difference….

Empath Type #9. Environmental Empath

With this kind of empath gift, you experience the uniqueness of different landscapes. To you it is not just scenery.

As a skilled empath, you can have such profound experiences of nature. A simple walk among some trees could move you to tears. And yet you feel balanced and stable as a person, even while you’re enjoying.

Empath Type #10. Plant Empath

With this kind of empath gift you know what it is like to be a particular flower or herb or tree.

As a skilled empath, you’ll find this talent so useful for gardening, care of plants, cooking!

And, because you’re skilled (not just talented, but skilled as an empath), guess what? You won’t pay the price of suffering along with tasting the insights.

Empath Type #11. Crystal Empath

With this kind of empath gift you move into the consciousness of a gemstone or semi-precious stone.

As a skilled empath, you can have so much fun with different stones. Even inexpensive jewelry and crystals can become powerful sources of information, inspiration, spiritual exploration.

Empath Type #12. Mechanical Empath

With this kind of empath gift you experience what it is like to be a machine. You sense what it needs. You may be able to fix a machine, even if you don’t have technical knowledge about how to fix that kind of machine. Haha.

As a skilled empath, you will be able to get your money’s worth — and more — from any machines that you use. And what a great advantage you have for learning new technologies, apps, you name it!

You know, there are digital natives and then there are mechanical empaths. Whether digital natives or not, mechanical empaths have great fun with whatever devices they choose to play with.

Empath Type #13. Medical Empath Talent

With this kind of empath gift you can know things, without being told, concerning specifics with somebody else’s health.

  • As a skilled empath, you will be able to help give support.
  • What if you also develop professional skills at acupuncture or nursing or Reiki, etc.? Then your use of those healing skills will be much, much better.
  • Ever hear that all empaths are healers? Sorry, but that’s not true. Think about it: Empaths are empaths. You become a healer by learning an effective skill set… as a healer.

If you wish to become a healer, that’s wonderful. You can study so many great kinds of mind-body-spirit healing. So choose what appeals to you.

Just know this: Does any training for a healer automatically include skills for an empath? Not really.

To learn a particular skill set for healing, study with an expert at that kind of healing.

To learn empath skills, study with an empath coach.

Makes sense to me. How about you?

Look, I can’t teach you brain surgery. Trust me, you wouldn’t like it if I tried. I don’t even know where the grey matter is compared to the other colors of matter inside a skull. 😉 However, I have coached empaths who have learned (elsewhere) just about every kind of healing specialty you can imagine.

Among other things, those empath skills help prevent burnout.

Empath Type #14. Empath Talent with Astral Beings

With this kind of empath gift you can have direct experience of one or more types of astral beings, be they flower fairies or angels or ETs.

It is very important to know that Empath Talent with Astral Beings doesn’t mean you “must” become a channeler or medium.

No more than an animal empath must become a veterinarian!

Psychic Empath? That’s Not a Kind of Empath.

Instead, that idea is just a mistake, a confusion.

When empath coaches mix up empath gifts with telepathy or psychic ability, I just cringe. How come?

  • Pursuing the paranormal is one optional interest that a person might have, whether a hobby or for professional work.
  • Whereas empath gifts are not optional.
  • If you have one or more empath gift, you have it for life. So your option about being an empath is whether or not you’ll get skills.
  • It can cause loads of problems to assume that being any type of empath is the same thing as being a psychic. It sure isn’t!
  • By contrast, if you have Empath Talent with Astral Beings, you’ll could be really good at using the skills of Rosetree Energy Spirituality (RES) to help yourself and others.
  • BTW, more apprentices are definitely needed, because the demand for RES practitioners is growing. In case you’re curious, here is a link to the Mentoring Program in RES.

As a skilled empath, you will can use Empath Talent with Astral Beings for gardening (think flower fairies) or for personal guidance or for using the RES skills of energy healing.

Empath Type #15. Molecular Empath Ability

With this kind of empath gift, even among empaths, you are ultra-perceptive about people.

Please note, this is a pretty rare gift. Technically it’s more than being smart or perceptive or curious.

If you’re a Molecular Empath, you spontaneously experience people at a molecular level. It’s almost like tickling them energetically, which helps them to wake them up spiritually.

As a skilled Molecular Empath, you will be able to help those who wish to grow. And (unlike unskilled empaths), you won’t pay a price for doing this, either.

What Inspired Today’s Article?

A theme we’ve been exploring around here lately is: What does it mean to have a personal presence?

Of course, it’s important to include empaths in any discussion of presence. Because if you were born as an empath, that will automatically be a big part of your presence.

I’m thinking it will take three articles to give you good clarity about your presence as an empath. Consider this article is the first of that short series.

What’s Next for You, as a Talented Empath?

Whatever type(s) of empath you are, please, be smart about it. Don’t just learn about gifts. Get skills. There’s more to gaining powerful skills than calling yourself an “Animal Empath” or whatever.

How can you get good skills? For starters, find a good teacher, a real empath coach who offers more than tips and coping tricks.

Might I recommend that you avoid any empath coach who treats you like a fragile feather?

Personally, I’m a different kind of empath coach, aiming you to bring strength and skills to support your natural sensitivity. Since publishing the first book in English for empaths, this empath coach has taught empaths on every continent.

You can learn a lot about my approach from this blog, including this Top 10 Post for Empaths

Also free, on Facebook I monitor the Facebook Group for Empath Empowerment® Skills. Come join us!

But did you know? No blog post or set of blog post will give a person real skills as an empath. Why not? There’s more to it than reading a few screens.

In my experience, skills that really help empaths aren’t hard to use. In fact, they’re effortless.

The learning does take some time, though. Yes, some personal investment.

Talented Empath, it seems to me that you deserve to give yourself that little bit of investment. Empowerment for an empath can be a life-changing skill set. Empath Empowerment® is a life skill that is so significant, it can improve your quality of life… for the rest of your life… and, once learned, your skills just keep getting better over time.

What is the quickest way to get systematic training in Empath Empowerment? Book 1 of my four-book series for empaths, “Become The Most Important Person in the Room” — whether as an eBook or a paperback.

Talented Empaths, I hope today’s post has helped you. Ask your questions below.

And next post we’ll go into the presence of an unskilled empath. After that I’m planning to complete this short series with an article about the presence of a skilled empath.

    Isabella Cates says:

Wonderful! I really like the gifts I have. 🙂

  • 2
    Lilian says:

This thread has been going on in the Facebook page as well. How I understand them is getting sharper, as my consciousness is getting more grounded in the human and I’m not getting generally lost in the astral so much.

  • 3
    Lilian says:

I think I’m: intellectual empath, environmental empath, astral empath. It would be good to go to an empath workshop to compare notes sometime.

  • 4
    Irene says:

I’m an intellectual empath, an environmental empath, a plant empath and I have emotional oneness. I have suspicions about a few others. For example, I think I may have emotional intuition too, but the volume and confusion of emotional oneness makes it hard for me to tell.

I’m not quite yet ready to wholeheartedly like them as they’ve caused some rather interesting challenges in my life. I’m sure I will appreciate them more in the future when I get to use them for skilled empath merge rather than just keep them turned off. 🙂

  • 5
    Irene says:

Lilian, I’m with you. I was sad to miss this year’s empath workshops.

Life gets considerably better when you have skills to go along with your empath talent!

  • 6
    Lilian says:

Ah, Irene, you’re sort of similar to me. Challenges, yes. It’s like the price of the gift is time wasted on things that non-empaths don’t have a learning curve on.

  • 7
    David B says:

Rose – I think this is the first time you’ve mentioned 13 and 14 on the blog. They’re in the latest books though. (you know 🙂 )

I notice some obvious gaps in the pattern. Like Intellectual Intuition vs Oneness. Animals too. Is this because you’ve not met anyone with those gifts yet?

  • 8
    Lilian says:

I don’t reckon I have the emotional ones (oneness or intuition), but when I experience an astral I definitely get an emotional connection first… (I did that just before I posted with my lovely astral gran just to check, and got a feeling of love, it was her birthday.)

    Who knows.

There’s so much to sort out in life, can’t focus on this all the time…

  • 9
    David B says:

Hey – and if astral beings have one, surely Divine beings do too? 🙂

  • 10
    David B says:

I can concur with the great value in getting some skills. Especially with the Oneness ones.

I saw something of your talent with #15, Rose. We can call it detail. 🙂

  • 11
    Lilian says:

The way it works with me, is that if I pick up that something is wrong, I will inevitably want to make it better… that’s how I function.

  • 12

ISABELLA CATES, IRENE, LILIAN, and DAVID B, thanks for your comments, one and all.

About that #7, DAVID B, you’re right. All 15 of the gifts are described in greater detail in “The Empowered Empath — Quick & Easy.” (Which is Empath Empowerment® Book 2.)

Then even more detail is given in “The Empowered Empath: Owning, Embracing and Managing Your Special Empath Gifts.” (Which is Empath Empowerment® Book 3.)

And along with each of these empath coaching books, there is a new layer of knowledge to help skills to get even better, more automatic, and used with greater understanding.

  • 13
    Lilian says:

So, if I look at patterns in my life, I can see that I’m def not got physical oneness or intuition.

When I try to help people, I focus on trying to make them feel less confused rather than just feeling better, so that’s why I reckon not emotional oneness/intuition.

  • 14
    Lilian says:

If I have specific experiences that make me all astrally, then I know for sure. I’m sure the workshop would help, as I tend to learn best directly from other people.

  • 15

So why didn’t I break down into Intuition and Oneness? Excellent question, DAVID B.

For utility. You know, I’m not into theory. What if you’re helping people — whether informally or professionally?

Then it matters a great deal to refine the nuances of experience that are physical, emotional, or spiritual. These are all helping you to learn about your “Discovery Person.”

  • 16

By contrast, if you’re helping someone intellectually, the ideas are the thing.

With animal empaths, you’re helping them however you can.

And so forth, with those many other empath gifts.

  • 17

In response to your Comment #9, DAVID B, you bet there is an empath gift that parallels Empath Talent with Astral Beings.

Two gifts: Spiritual Intuition and Spiritual Oneness.

  • 18

For example, and not to embarrass you, you know that both Isabella Cates and I have both done Skilled Empath Merges for you, and there was much detail about flavors of the Divine in your state of consciousness. Eh?

    (Haha, that great Canadian syllable!)

  • 19

LILIAN, about your Comment #14, I’m likwise sure you’d learn a great deal from the Empath Empowerment Workshop Level 1 (and also Level 2, for that matter).

It’s useful to know this, however: All my workshops can be offered through Days of Mentoring. That’s you and me, over webcam or Skype or phone or in person, as convenient.

  • 20

In this last week, I taught Empath Empowerment Level 1 to two different people, both times over webcam.

The learning was just as intense, because in Personal Mentoring we can bring in pieces of information that are very meaningful personally, like having me pull out energetic holograms of things that have happened to my student.

Helping that student to understand better what happened energetically at the time. And what made that other person tick.

  • 21

So there’s something to be said about both ways of taking my workshop.

Here is info about how simple it is to arrange a Day of Mentoring version of any of my in-person workshops.

  • 22

BTW, both those recent students clarified that they DID have certain empath gifts that they hadn’t thought they really had.

Including that quote from GLADYS about being an Animal Empath. Remember the unique centipede idea?

Until we did the workshop thing together, GLADYS didn’t think that she had Animal Empath Ability.

  • 23

Of course, there is something really special about taking RES workshops in person, which is why I cordially invite you and everyone who can come to the upcoming Aura Reading Workshop, Level 1.

Many come from far and wide. And, while they’re here, students will often avail themselves of the chance to do the one kind of session I don’t offer over the phone or Skype: Soul Energy Awakening Hypnosis.

  • 24

Plus sometimes it’s just fun to get out of the quiet suburbs and go hang out in nearby Washington, D.C.

Last weekend an out-of-country student was rather surprised and fascinated to encounter America’s annual Rolling Thunder: 900,000 participants and spectators; many, many Harleys.

  • 25
    Lilian says:

You’re local suburbs are quite lovely. You can walk *in shade* *in woodland* from your house to the Potomac River!

Very Lilian friendly. Rivers and woodlands are really all I need on a holiday.

  • 26
    Lilian says:

Yes, mentoring days etc are in my plans. I think that an intense one-to-one session is a good idea at first, then swapping notes with other students at a later time would be good to round that off.

  • 27
    Lilian says:

Oh yes, I loved the centipede comment! How amazing! That explains an animal empath talent so concisely and perfectly.

  • 28

Speaking of types of empath, have you ever heard the term “Autism Empath”?

This is impossible. Those with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome are, categorically, not empaths.

The link just provided would be very helpful to share with anyone you know who has been confused in this way.

  • 29

Although you wouldn’t know it from the Internet where non-truths and half-truths spread like wildfire. I just Googled “Autism empath” and got 64,800 hits.

Incidentally, the top hit was from an empath coach with, well, a very different point of view from mine and the psychological expert cited in my previously-mentioned article.

  • 30
    Isabella Cates says:

Rose, I know that when you are an Animal Empath, you might only have the gift for certain animals or certain types of critters, and not others. Right?

Is this possible for a Plant Empath? E.g. Trees, but not flowers?

  • 31

    Yes indeed, ISABELLA CATES.

As you know, I have written books that contain a LOT more information about each empath gift. Along with systematic instruction to help the empath gain the skills of Empath Empowerment®!

For each of those books, I have worked long and hard so that the reader can find the fastest, easiest way into gaining those skills.

This blog post (and blog) are not to be seen as replacements for any of the books in my series for empaths. Instead this is a brief introductory post so that we can elevate the public conversation about “Which kind of empath am I?”

  • 32
    Lilian says:

Thanks for the comment Isabella. It is good to note that empath types must indicate a spectrum of empath talent.

  • 33
    David B says:

Great question, Isabella. And agreed, Rose. But we might not realize we have a gift if we’d not run into our flavour of it yet. (consciously) Or may assume that everyone with a similar gift will experience it the same way.

So it is a key point.

  • 34
    Kira says:

I’ve had a similar question to Isabella’s–is it possible to be an environmental empath who only has the talent for relating to a specific environment?

Because I relate to trees, and I haven’t figured out whether I’m a plant empath or an environmental empath (or both). I enjoy being in different kinds of environments, but environments with lots of trees feel special at a deep level. But then, so do certain individual trees; some of them just call to me.

(Heck, when my husband and I first visited the property we eventually bought to get our house built on, I felt instantly like I belonged here; I remember trying not to be too attached in case we didn’t get it.)

  • 35
    Kira says:

I wasn’t planning to actually *ask* the question, but it was so similar to Isabella’s that I just wanted to mention I’d been thinking along the same lines.

I feel sure I’ll eventually figure it out. (Because if I don’t, there’s always a Day of Mentoring.)

  • 36
    Kira says:

Oh, and as far as being a plant empath, I’m definitely not talented with houseplants.

I have an amaryllis and it’s been alive for several years, and it’s the only one I’ve ever managed to keep alive. And that’s only because my husband helps. I’ve killed a cactus; as one comedian put it, I’m “less nurturing than a desert.”

  • 37
    Kira says:

I definitely have intellectual empath gift and emotional oneness. Also empath talent with astral beings. The ones I’m unsure about are mechanical empath, crystal empath, animal empath, and the above-mentioned plant and/or environmental empath with trees.

I have, again along the lines of Isabella’s question, found myself wondering if the connections I feel to machines and crystals are to astral beings within them via the astral empath talent rather than the specific mechanical and crystal empath talents.

  • 38

Yes, KIRA, regarding your Comment #35, I would definitely recommend a Day of Mentoring.

  • 39

Just to share an exchange I have had with “Gladys,” in case any of you can relate.

She asked me, “What do you do if you are REALLY not sure if you have any empathic gifts?”

The short answer is: “You’re not an empath.”

However, RES offers you plenty of other ways to move forward in your personal development, with many skills of energy healing. Plus enlightenment coaching. Empath coaching is not all I offer.

  • 40

Some of you, though, are just giving yourself a hard time.

Or you don’t have confidence. About plenty of things, including allowing yourself to call yourself any kind of empath.

  • 41

If this little blog post, or others like it, is not enough to give you clarity, you might wish to follow my advice in this article and get yourself a copy of “Become The Most Important Person in the Room.”

No blog post is a good substitute for a dedicated book that I worked on for years to give you the easiest possible start of empath skills.

  • 42

Another option you have is to book a session with me for aura healing and transformation.

In that session, bring an intention like “More self-confidence” or “A stronger sense of self.”

I’ll help you, of course. And it will be quality assistance, one-on-one, using my skills of Rosetree Energy Spirituality (RES). Would it be reasonable to expect this quality of personal attention from a blog? Haha. You know the answer to that one!

Your session can include a bit of conversation about whether or not you’re an empath. Just mention it early on, once we’re in session.

  • 43
    Lilian says:

    Michael: What Rose says.

Also, you can just go ahead and learn skills before you’re sure what exactly your abilities are. I’m pretty idiosyncratic with understanding these things myself…

  • 44
    Lilian says:

Buy “The Empowered Empath” and do the Coming Home technique every day for a bit and also the First Aid and I like Techniques.

I find that they help me learn a bit more about myself.

  • 45
    Cameron says:

I am an emotional empath with an intuitive sense. Is this rare? My emotional sensory is at higher level then the intuitive sense. I always knew i was senstive but not as an empath i never knew until yesterday i already had the experience but never knew the official name. I want to know to get my gifts stronger so i can help people better.

  • 46
    Rose Rosetree says:

Congratulations, CAMERON, on finding out you’re an empath.

Also, congratulations on finding the website where one of the main specialties is Empath Empowerment®: A uniquely effective system for helping you, and the only trademarked system in America to help empaths.

  • 47
    Rose Rosetree says:

Your next step might be to reread the main article here, because you won’t find “Emotional Empath with an Intuitive Sense.”

In your sweet enthusiasm, you might not have paused to read the entire article.

  • 48
    Rose Rosetree says:

Rereading, you will find other terms and ideas that might fit you more precisely.

Then, might I suggest you look here for your next steps to become skilled as an empath. Which can be a gentle progression of self-discovery. And life-changing.

As you’ll learn, this involves a lot more than getting precise names for your empath gifts.

  • 49
    Cameron says:

My abilities are like i can sense their emotions and i feel it as well. That one is emotional oneness. But the other I’m not sure at all. This one i can sense the person’s intenions and if they are bad or good by the feeling i get from them. If you can help identify which sense or ability it is I’d be happy to know so i can get a better handle on myself. I know I’m a unskilled empath but i do have the willpower to block out certain people or energies. So i don’t get influenced by them

  • 50
    Cameron says:

Also others can’t sense my energy (non empaths) so I’m hardly approached not often anyway. It could be just where i live. Cause i live near Boston MA. The people are so focused on themselves or on their phones. But i always get side glances and some eye contact but that’s it. Idk if it’s because I’m a unskilled empath? Hmm i wonder.

  • 51
    Rose Rosetree says:

CAMERON, it’s neither helpful nor appropriate for you to continue describing yourself here, regaling us with your experiences as an unskilled empath.

If you’re content with the sort of thing you mentioned, fine. You don’t need what I can offer.
