In 2001, Barry Bonds set a new record for home run hits in a single baseball season. That’s all I knew about him before reading his photo.

A peek at his aura  revealed three things that surprised me:

*Exceptional physical strength.

*He’s well endowed with personal ego.

*As a communicator, Barry Bonds is hard to get to know. Although he speaks forcefully and truthfully, I think he also has the habit of presenting an image of himself, rather than simply being himself. Many adults do this, but not to the degree I think Bonds does; this can make him seem inscrutable.

Here are the seven most significant things I noticed about Barry Bonds’ physical face:

*LONG CANINE TEETH

These pointy teeth are usually no longer than the four teeth between them, including the front teeth. On Bonds the right canine is exceptionally long (probably the left one, too, though I couldn’t readily find a photo that showed it; regardless, the right tooth is the one that relates to his career).

Meaning: The ballplayer’s drive to win is major league. Tough competition only increases his inner certainty that he will prevail. Victory is such a gut instinct for the left fielder, he doesn’t have to act pushy. He just does all he can to win.

*EAR BOXES

Notice the sculpted shape on Bonds’ earlobe? It’s unusual for an earlobe to have that kind of definition.

It signifies an artist’s instinct for perfect form: Making the resources he works with line up perfectly to fit into his objectives. Although I’m no athlete, I also have this bit of face data. As a writer, I’m obsessed with finding the perfect format and words for what I’m expressing. For the San Francisco Giant, his knack for perfect form could include the perfect fit of bat to ball, a.k.a. a loud, resounding home run hit.

*BIG INNER EAR CIRCLES

To Face Readers, ears show three components whose relative sizes are important to notice. On Bonds, the inner ear circle is by far his largest, followed by the earlobe; the outer ear circle is barely there because his inner circle is so large.

This ear data suggests that Bonds is a big interpreter of reality. What’s his belief system? Face reading, even aura reading, won’t reveal the specifics. His belief system could center around his personal ego, his religion, philosophy, personal relationships, or politics. And it could change.

But here’s the point: Whatever he believes in now, he’ll interpret everything that happens to him (and others) according to that belief system. Doesn’t everyone? Not at all. Facts matter to Bonds only when they fit with his beliefs; most facts he’ll ignore. So don’t expect to change this man’s mind any time soon.

*STRAIGHT LOWER EYELIDS

The shape of someone’s eyes, on the bottom, is always revealing. On a scale from 1-10, going from straight to curved, Bonds’ right eye shows a 3, his left a 1.

An athlete of Bonds’ stature must have an enormous following. Still, I wouldn’t expect him to open up to new fans, so much as to be intensely loyal to those who’ve been friends all along. In fact, I suspect he’s highly self-protective with strangers, especially those who attempt to intrude on his personal life.

*LARGE EYELID THICKNESS

When teaching my students how to see this part of the physical face, I always joke that this is where they’d put the blue eyeshadow if they were wearing make-up. Those hefty rims over Bonds’ eyes mean he’d really get his money’s worth out of that blue paint. Not that I’m expecting him to wear it any time soon ;-).

In my system of Face Reading Secrets (R), eyelid thickness shows how people define intimacy in relationships. Once you’ve become friends with Barry Bonds, I think he becomes very close. In fact, that’s one reason why (as previously mentioned) he protects himself so much from strangers.

*HIGHBROW

Physically, not necessarily culturally, the man’s a highbrow, with eyebrows naturally placed far above his eyes.

This goes with secretiveness, especially concerning new plans in his life. So don’t expect him to call press conferences with reporters about any new ventures until they’re well established.

The potential problem with having this wise reserve involves being considered aloof. Bonds isn't a tell-all guy, despite the moderate amount of self-disclosure that shows in his moderately full lips. Speaking about personal details, such as feelings, need not include mention of his dreams for his future.

*PRIORITY AREA THREE PREDOMINATES

Of the three Priority Areas, measured lengthwise on Bonds’ face, forehead-to-eyebrows is shortest. Next comes eyebrows to bottom of nose. Then, bam! comes the big one on his face: nose to chin.

Thus, I expect that Barry Bonds’ personality strikes people as down-to-earth. Even if he couldn’t bat a tee-ball, the man would have credibility as someone who walks his talk. 

Therefore, I wouldn’t expect his idea of fun to be hour-long debates over abstract matters, like how many ballplayer angels could dance on the head of a pin. Instead he’s a normal guy, playing a quintessentially normal American sport. It’s to Barry Bonds’ credit that how he plays that sport makes him the best in the world.
