EMPATHIC VOLUNTEER WORK by Rose Rosetree We’ve received many calls and e-mails in response to the terrorist tragedy on September 11 and would like to offer some suggestions. If you would like to be of service as a skilled empath: Do not repeatedly expose yourself to news reports detailing the tragedy. Once you have established the facts about what happened, avoid imprinting your mind with images of fear and pain. Visual images are most important to avoid. Focusing on these images creates a kind of psychological poison that furthers the “cause” of terrorism. Your job as an empath is to move beyond terror to bring stability and service. If you feel fear and pain run through you (one student wrote to me, “I can’t stop shaking”), take a cold shower, get some exercise, drink lots of clean water—don’t deny your feelings but move yourself back into the best balance available. Give service in a way that is meaningful to you. Give blood, if you can. Join others with volunteer efforts in your community. You may feel drawn to participate in prayer groups. (Remember, though, the difference between genuine prayer and coercion. It is appropriate to send love and light. Sending specific thoughts, emotions, or outcomes to others violates spiritual law and will not bring about desirable results.) Once you have moved into a state of relative emotional balance, it is appropriate to do Empathic Volunteer Work. Instructions follow. EMPATHIC SERVICE TO HEAL TERRORISM 1. Sit quietly, eyes closed. Connect to what it feels like to be you, in spiritual balance—your physical body, mind, intellect, emotions, and spiritual source. The resulting state of calmness is the basis for performing service as a skilled empath. 2. Get Big by calling upon an Ascended Master or Archangel—e.g., Jesus, Mary, Buddha, Krishna; Archangel Raphael (who brings healing), Archangel Michael (who removes what doesn’t belong), Archangel Gabriel (who facilitates communication). Soon as you think the name of any one of these enlightened beings made of light, you are connected. Feel the presence of the being who is helping you, e.g., Archangel Raphael. 3. Choose a group or individual to assist empathically, such as children who have been frightened by the acts of terrorism; people whose loved ones have been hurt in New York or Washington; people whose bodies have died and who have not yet made the spiritual transition to their next place of development. Think the name of the group you choose to help and automatically you will connect a three-way conference call between that group, Archangel Raphael, and you. 4. Set your intention. Say it inside, e.g., “The purpose of this session is to facilitate healing.”
5. Experience the flow of feelings and/or
information from those who are being helped.
6. Send this out to Archangel Raphael rather
than through yourself. Remember to work in partnership. Do whatever you do in
an effortless manner, rather than forcing. Should emotions fill you, patiently
direct them to Archangel Raphael. Alternatively, send emotions out through
your feet, into the earth. Breathe deeply, dip into your inner silence—find
your way of staying in a flow.
7. Connect to Divine light and love. Share it
with those whom you are helping. After release of fear and pain, people can
hold a healing best when they are filled with light. By analogy, if helping
someone with a cold, after supplying the tissues, you would bring the vitamin
C and the chicken soup.
8. Repeat this cycle until you feel you have
done all you can do comfortably at one sitting. Five minutes, done in
balance, will be more helpful than three solid hours of personal drama.
Besides, a normal state of balance is the basis for all service as a skilled
empath. It does not strengthen you as a helper to become tired. Better
to end a session sooner than later.
9. Send a final transmission of light, via
Archangel Raphael, to those whom you are helping.
10. Return your attention to yourself. Say out
loud: All psychic ties between myself and the group (or person) I’ve been
working with are now cut by Archangel Raphael.
11. Breathe deeply. Stretch. Open your eyes.
One way you can tell your session of service has been effective is by how you
feel now. As with all spiritual practices, you will know it has been effective
by its fruits, such as peace, silence, and a quiet kind of love.
CONCLUSION Feel free to be of service as your own reserves of joy permit. But allow yourself plenty of “off-duty” time as well to count your blessings and enjoy life. A calamity like the present one is an opportunity for individuals to release their own stored fear and pain. If these unconscious emotions surface for you, process them as best you can. Do not, however, confuse this process with empathic service. Be clear about your personal boundaries, when dealing with yourself and with others. In this way, you can fulfill your heart’s desire to be of service. |
