Deeper Perception Made Practical

External Validation. Energy Spirituality Perspective

External Validation. Gives a good feeling, like eating candy. But how good is it for your spiritual growth?

External Validation is our personal growth topic for today.

What is External Validation? And how can Energy Spirituality help you to shift away from that…  toward something far better?

First of All, What IS External Validation?

It means letting other people tell you who you are.

And letting them tell you what’s true for you.

Okay, in theory that might sound abstract.

Since this blog is about personal growth and spiritual awakening, let’s go for some concrete examples.

Psychic Development Encourages External Validation

Whether you call that “becoming a psychic” or “intuitive work.” (“Intuitive being a popular branding choice, now that we’re in the Age of Awakening.)

In psychic readings you might try to:

  • Figure out who is calling on the phone
  • Locate a lost kitten
  • Predict which stock to buy
  • Seek guidance on your purpose
  • Or find out what you are supposed to do with the rest of your life

Doing any of these bits of psychic work, accuracy is a very big deal. So teachers of psychic development give you ways to test yourself as you go along.

Often, there’s emphasis on duplicating the findings of other people, whether it is others in your class or replicating the “perfect” work of your “perfect” teacher.

Think that last part is a joke? Not necessarily. Barbara Brennan, a well respected psychic and healer, does consider this the ideal way to teach. In an interview in Pathways Magazine, she proudly described how this is how she teaches at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing:

To the extent that the students duplicate her exact findings, they are correct.

Being told by your teacher that you’re right? Sure, that could build confidence of a certain sort.

More about the Appeal of External Validation

External validation doesn’t only appeal to people studying psychic development. It is a common antidote to self-doubt.

“Tell me, Sweetheart, do you think I look fat?”

Back in junior high  —  or earlier, or later —  many of us seek safety in numbers. That works for some things, like dressing appropriately.

For personal growth? Not so helpful at all.

Likewise, for spiritual growth, external validation gives us safety in numbers. Opposite to authentic spiritual awakening. And distinctly unhelpful for moving toward Enlightenment.

Spiritual development, including the growth of full energetic literacy? Clearly, this is not about other people. Or whether you fit in with “the cool kids.” Rather, spiritual growth is mostly between you and God. Co-creating and making discoveries together. Bringing that personal joy to this sacred human lifetime.

An Enlightenment Coach like me can help you to accelerate personal growth. Including spiritual growth. But not be encouraging you to get hooked on the candy of External Validation.

Thanks, Rose, this makes it all very clear. It’s an important distinction. Though I do read a lot on these subjects, your blog posts are the first to so clearly separate the two.

P.S. In case it’s crossed your mind to write about them, I’d be very curious to learn more about the aura and face reading of Mr M. and Senator W.

This is greatly helpful to me, Rose. It gives me clarity about the difficulty I’ve had in studying techniques that would actually be effective for me in real life ways.
