What Does NOT Count as Technique Time — 11 Exceptions to the General Rule

Celebrate Father's Day today OR any holiday of your choice. Celebrate in a HUMAN way.

Celebrate Father’s Day today OR any holiday of your choice. Celebrate in a HUMAN way.

Blog-Buddies, I’m so glad to be explaining this last chunk of great importance to those of us who limit our Technique Time to 20 Daily Minutes, Tops. As described in yesterday’s article.

What is Technique Time? It’s all about voluntary positioning of consciousness.

During Technique Time a person positions awareness away from objective reality or surface thoughts and feelings… in order to improve himself or herself.

It’s a movement away from human vibrational frequencies towards Divine vibrational frequencies or — most commonly — the person winds up with awareness positioned squarely at astral vibrational frequencies.

Here are 11 things that could happen during a 24-hour period. None of them would count as your official Technique Time.

Notice the reasons given, however. Each of these exceptions is being named in a context, or a manner of doing a particular activity.

Technique Time Exception #1: Let’s Hear It for Insomnia

All that happens between going to bed for the night and getting out of bed to begin your new day….

If you have insomnia, that could be your lucky opportunity. Because you can pray or visualize or do whatever spiritual activity you like to your heart’s content.

In terms of states of consciousness, you’re moving in and out of waking/sleeping/dreaming. Enjoy that potentially glorious time!

Technique Time Exception #2: A Quick Prayer Before You Eat

Saying grace. That’s just a formality, right.

You don’t have to vibe out the food or read the aura of every single green bean.

Although if you do, oopsie, that DOES count as Technique Time.

Technique Time Exception #3: When You Bow Down to Mecca, etc.

Ritual prayers, as in Islam or Orthodox Judaism, do not have to be bare-your-soul and offer up everything before Allah, G-D, etc.

Or maybe you’re attending a Meeting of Friends. That’s an hour, mostly in silence. And according to Quaker custom, mostly with eyes closed.

If clairaudience is one of your gifts for reading auras, right on the surface of sound you will hear the glorious Divine chorus right there with you, most undramatically, right in the room. Still, that doesn’t mean it is necessary to position your consciousness away from human vibrational frequencies.

It’s up to you, how much of that time you will choose to use as your Technique Time.

Otherwise, go through the motions. Literally say and do what is required. You do not have to feel a special otherworldy something.

None of these practices was developed after the Age of Aquarius. Five minutes of Technique Time now is worth so much more energetically, compared with back in the day. If other people are closing their eyes, you still don’t have to. Maybe open your eyes a crack, to remind yourself not to go tripping around in consciousness.

Technique Time Exception #4: “Let us pray”

Public prayers, as in a church service — does that mean you are obligated to move around in your consciousness? I think not.

“Let us pray” goes the minister. Inwardly, you may go, “Oboy, now I’m in for a long speech.” 😉

Even if you love the words being spoken, don’t confuse that with Technique Time. Or a personal prayer to God, which is NOT done in public. Real prayer, sure, do some of that during Technique Time, if you like.

By contrast, what is happening during a service of worship. Or a “Prayer Breakfast”?

You ARE, with all respect, listening to somebody’s beautiful speech or reading. Again, to make the distinction clear, you might keep your eyes open just a sliver.

Technique Time Exception #5: Workaround for Energy-Based Exercise

Yoga or tai chi or Qigong — they’re so great! Sure, use some of your Technique Time for that if you like.

Otherwise, during your class or daily practice at home, you can shallow up.

Just get into the posture and take it as a form of sacred exercise.

In this Age of Aquarius, you will receive some of the benefit. As a bigger benefit, you won’t slip-slide into Spiritual Addiction.

So you will stay in better balance energetically. Plus you will move forward faster on your personal path to Enlightenment.

And wasn’t that kind of thing the point, actually?

Technique Time Exception #6: Workaround While Healing with Energy

Doing an energy medicine routine, or keeping your hands on a client while doing Reiki. Well, so what?

In the old days, you had to keep paying attention in order for these healing techniques to work. Now they work just fine while you go through the motions.

Because, Lucky You, you’re living in the Age of Aquarius.

What if you’re doing Reiki Level II and you’re supposed to be having a conversation with that person’s subconscious mind? You Reiki experts can find a workaround, similar to what I described yesterday. Maybe one minute for assessment and one minute for chatting with your client’s subconscious mind.

Enough already! Your efficacy as a healer depends most on your own balance.

Healers who live in Spiritual Addiction are way less effective than well-balanced healers with skills, folks who happen to live in human-based spirituality.

Technique Time Exception #7: Right After an Away Moment

Away moments. We have discussed here: How you come back from away moments.

That matters, even thought the Away Moment itself doesn’t count as  Technique Time while you’re daydreaming.

Yes, Technique Time only begins after you have a choice.  Like if you decide you would rather keep replaying that aggravating mishap  with your ex. Or whatever.

(BTW, some sessions of aura healing and transformation can help anybody to live more in the present. Many away moments are really caused by STUFF. And, as you may know, STUFF can always, always, always be healed.)

Technique Time Exception #8: Enjoy This Easy Way to Avoid Tripping Around in Your Subconscious Mind

You can avoid  Technique Time by physically making a list. Or by speaking out loud. Pull out your moblie phone and use it for stealth! Whether you are talking to yourself or to God, as soon as you move your physical body to write or speak aloud, you automatically position consciousness in human frequencies. Buh-bye excessive Technique Time….

Technique Time Exception #9. Playing Peek a Boo with God

Spontaneously noticing the presence of God? Well, of course, tht can happen.

God plays peek-a-boo with us constantly.

  • In the silence.
  • In the air.
  • In anyone who isn’t you.
  • In yourself.

That ain’t Technique Time, folks. Because you’re not trying to make it happen. No positioning of consciousness away from the surface of life.

Just like you might notice your knee. Well, “Hello God.”

That is an experience of unfolding consciousness, perfectly normal. By keeping your life in human-based spirituality, this sort of thing will occur sooner rather than later.

Enlightenment is a version of the waking state of consciousness, right? It is different from becoming so obsessed with improving yourself that you’re constantly muttering, whirling, etc. (See examples of the latter towards the end of my novel for empaths, “The Roar of the Huntids.”)

Technique Time Exception #10. Your Sense of Self in Enlightenment

Shifts to your personal identity, with the Divine peeking through — that’s not trying to cram in extra working on yourself.

That’s called “Enlightenment,” not Technique Time.

Technique Time Exception #11: The Occasional Request to Your Favorite Form of the Divine

Thinking or saying an occasional request to God during your day? Don’t count that as  Technique Time.

Just avoid getting into the habit of making God into the loveable sidekick in your daily inner TV show, constantly being consulted.

It’s common sense, right? Save this special chit-chat for something important, not incessant whining and begging, for heaven’s sake.

Incidentally, discussing this distinction is one of my favorite chapters in my daybook for spiritual development, Enlightenment Coaching as it were, “Let Today Be a Holiday,” a.k.a. “365 Ways to a Stronger You.”

Of course you can live this consciousness lifestyle, Blog-Buddies.

Dare to be counter-culture.

Dare to live in a Post-New Age manner.

Dare to be human, and position your consciousness accordingly. Being human is no disability, you know. It’s an immense opportunity, especially for those of us with the privilege who are pioneers of this new Age of Aquarius.

    Sarah says:

I use #8 a lot! I make (and throw away) a lot of lists, just to help get myself back to “reality” if I start drifting away.

  2. 2
    Sarah says:

And also, I have heard from a few different people that they like to sing along to the radio in the car on long, boring drives to keep themselves awake/alert/present/etc.

In reading #8 here, I realized that I do a similar thing to keep myself at human frequencies. Pretty much only when I’m driving (which would be a really bad time for technique time!!), if I notice that I’m daydreaming or otherwise “drifting” in consciousness, I will start speaking out loud to myself about whatever random topic is running through my brain.

  3. 3
    Sarah says:

I’ve just done it without thinking, and now it makes more sense why I would have the impulse.

It is much easier for me to focus on driving and not random brain-chatter when I vocalize that chatter, which always seemed counterintuitive to me.

But in the context of positioning consciousness at human vs. subconscious/astral frequencies, it makes sense.

Thank you for this post, Rose! This is very helpful to me.

    Kira says:

#1: In bed but not asleep has always felt to me like “not real time”, for as long as I can remember.

Almost all of my journaling and many of my poems happen during that time, as well as my occasional chit-chatting with guides.

    Kira says:

#4: I went to an Episcopal school from kindergarten to 12th grade, so this one is pretty well ingrained in me.

It would take actual effort for me to pay attention to the prayers in any other way than as a speech.

  7. 7
    Kira says:

#7 is probably my biggest challenge. I usually do reinsert myself into reality when I notice I’m away, but sometimes my away moments take the form of explaining something about myself to someone in my head, and when I notice I’m doing it, I feel on the verge of discovering something useful.

  8. 8
    Kira says:

When I’m alone, I just start having that conversation out loud if I want to finish it, but if I’m with someone but not interacting (like when someone else is driving), I sometimes choose to stick with the conversation internally.

  9. 9
    Kira says:

#9 does seem to happen to me fairly often.

  10. 10
    Kira says:

I’m really glad you made this list. I haven’t spent time wondering specifically about these instances, but I did have a sort of vague curiosity about them in the back of my mind that wouldn’t gel into question form.

  11. 11
    Kira says:

Sometimes it takes a lot of processing (HSP-style) for me to see the questions in the uneasiness I feel about various things I learn.

It’s kind of like a surprise treat to get answers to questions I haven’t figured out I have yet!

Leave it you, Rose, to find the silver lining for insomnia 🙂

Seriously, thank you for the clarification of what is not technique time. And also for the practical work-arounds.

    David B says:

hmmm – this list is something to digest. Some of this stuff showed up before #10. The rule I realize I developed was that if it showed up spontaneously, it was OK. If I invested in it, I had to take a look at how. Was this healthy?

Prayer, for example, has several forms. A prayer of asking is simple, surface mind. A prayer of surrender, far more effective but not surface mind.

I certainly see now that the unskilled empath merges were an exception to the exception. 😉

  14. 14
    David B says:

They key it seems to me is how we are with whatever activity we’re doing.

If we’re walking down the street but planning an upcoming meeting – normal human activity.

If we’re walking down the street but astrally travelling, etc, not normal human activity.

If we’re walking down the street but practicing a walking meditation or mindfulness, normal but not so in the world activity.

    Zofia says:

Comment to 3: absolutely Sarah, chattering out loud helps focus. At school we re taught that empty vessels make most noise, but that s not really true. I really work best when I m around others.

    Lilian says:

What we do naturally seems to be the best way to deal with things.

I’ve always listened to heavy metal, rock etc.

    Talked to myself a lot.

    Hummed annoying tunes.

  17. 17
    Lilian says:

I’m trying to add not sitting down for too long as one of my annoying habits.

If you don’t stand up for an hour, the electrical signals sent to your legs actually shut down.

We’re meant to be physically engaged in work. This staring at screens is no good.

  18. 18
    Lilian says:

I’m trying to switch to software development from maths to keep things more practical for myself.

Then there’s always writing, art and talking…

  19. 19
    Lilian says:

Also, it’s good to know I don’t have to give up healing. You can just dial it in with intention. I used to wear myself out thinking I needed to talk to all the guides and feel how the energy was structured in the body. Man, doing that once a week can wipe you out. You need to develop enough confidence to know that what you get in a minute (quite a long time) is enough.

  20. 20

Your point is so well taken in Comment #17, LILIAN. Here is a link to an article with research that studies how excessive sitting can also cause emotional anxiety.

    Christine says:

So doing Donna Eden’s Five Minute Energy Routine would not count as Technique Time?

  22. 22

That’s right, CRISTINE. It wouldn’t count, so long as you do it in a mechanical fashion.

Do the Three Thumps, for instance, without afterwards noticing, “How does that make my energies feel?”
