Empath’s Clarity Quiz aims to help you develop much-needed discernment, especially important when you’re offered so many coping tips for empaths.
Simply by taking this quiz, you’ll win practical clarity. Gaining the ability to save yourself time — and maybe even protect yourself. Definitely after taking this quiz, and reading ANSWERS in our next post, you’ll have scissor-sharp discernment. Allowing you to cut through loads of fluff and fear talk now commonly recommended for empaths.
Because these are spreading like dandelions and crabgrass in summertime.
Instead what can we choose? The one choice out of three that really helps. And a second choice that’s good sometimes, in good sequence. You’ll see!
First, a Bit of Background
Back in the 1990’s, I started writing my first book for empaths, publishing “Empowered by Empathy” early in 2000.
This turned out to be the FIRST book in English for helping empaths, with authorized translations into Japanese and Turkish.
By now, I no longer sell that book, actually. Instead, I’ve published a series of Empath Empowerment Books; they share much more up-to-date information that’s suitable for The Age of Awakening.
Fast forward to now, and what else? This coming weekend I’ll give my first workshop ever for HSPs as well as empaths.
These RES Sensitivity Skills aren’t the FIRST self-help ideas for Highly Sensitive Persons. That honor goes to Dr. Elaine Aron’s brilliant discovery.
Instead, I’m bringing a new perspective that’s also up-to-date, making use of the new freedom of awareness available to us all now. And helping us to avoid the traps that so many good people fall into. (More about that coming up soon, in today’s article.)
Before you take today’s Empath’s Clarity Quiz, might I suggest?
- Read Part One of this three-part series.
- And also check out my preface before quiz questions start. That way you’ll learn about the three possible answers for each Quiz question that follows.
Consciousness Skills. Or Social Skills. Or Energy Awareness
Blog-Buddies, that’s what I’m asking you to think about, considering this distinction can really help empaths and HSPs. Versus what sounds familiar and easy to do. Like, “It’s all the same really, isn’t it?” (This being a common statement from beginners, revealing a distinct lack of clarity.)
First, nothing is easier or more effective than using Consciousness Skills. Effortless by nature, these skills about how to direct your awareness… are the only effective way to become a skilled empath. At least, according to this empath coach!
How come? Because you can learn tiny tweaks to position your consciousness appropriately. Turns out, this is essential: whether you simply wish to become more comfortable as an empath… or you aim to learn how to use your empathic talent full-force by doing Skilled Empath Merge.
Second, Social Skills have come to dominate advice for empaths. Probably because they seem like “anybody can do this,” which reassures empaths who feel a bit intimidated or overwhelmed.
These coping tips for empaths are like helpful hints for cleaning your housekeeping. Unfortunately, they’re mostly busywork… unless you learn effective social skills designed especially for empaths, and you learn them after exploring the essential consciousness skills.
This one-two combination can help you to integrate new possibilities created by more clarity of awareness.
What about the Third Type of Empath Tip?
That’s Energy Awareness, which means advising empaths to notice energies. And (supposedly) by noticing energies or doing things to fix their energies, empaths can get help on demand.
Seems to me, energy awareness is now the most popular enticement, as experts seek to gain traction in a now-crowded of bloggers, writers, and psychologists.
Why an enticement? Because guess what has happened with The Age of Awakening? Ever since the Shift began on 12/21/12… everybody who wishes to notice energies can do so. All empaths can notice energies. All non-empaths, too.
By instructing folks to do things with their energies, some empath helpers can make their advice relatable. As in, “Hey, I notice energies. So I can do this. And this expert tells me that noticing energies can solve all my problems, wow!”
And if the empath helperes add an element of fear, that ups the appeal. (For some empaths, anyway. Not knowing better.)
Which is why, in recent years, you’ll find increasingly strident appeals to fear in the guise of “survival tips” for empaths. Including an article from which I’ve drawn the following quiz questions.
Where You Come In. And Where Clarity Comes In.
For each of the following questions, give one of these three answers.
- Consciousness Skills. Does the tip help an empath to position consciousness, and thus become stronger and more resourceful as a person? (None of this is difficult. It just takes a little bit of time to get the knack. As in this Quick & Easy how-to for empaths.)
- Social Skills. Does the tip help an empath by giving advice about behavior. Instantly understandable! Although, possibly, just a distraction from an empath’s pain and confusion…. unless each new social skill supports a change that an empath has learned to make in habits about using consciousness. (In the opinion of this empath coach, anyway.)
- Energy Ideas. These are notions from the New Age Years (before The Age of Awakening began). Paying attention to energy ideas like these has a large following. However, my research into alternative strategies suggests something pretty shocking: That paying a lot of attention to energies — especially fearing them — will weaken an empath. Despite providing plenty of busywork.
Well, those are the three choices for each of your answers. Please share your thoughts below. Maybe why you chose as you did.
And also, what have been the results for you, personally… if you have ever tried to help yourself in these ways.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #1. Avoiding Negativity
If empaths are around peace and love, their bodies assimilate these and flourish. Crowds or negativity, though, often feel assaultive, exhausting.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #2. Distance Yourself
When possible, distance yourself by at least twenty feet from the suspected source.
See if you feel relief. Don’t err on the side of not wanting to offend anyone.
At the gathering try not to sit next to the identified energy vampire.
Physical closeness increases empathy.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #3. Use Your Breath THIS Way
If you suspect you are picking up someone else’s energies, concentrate on your breath for a few minutes.
This is centering and connects you to your power.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #4. Don’t Use Your Breath THAT Way
In contrast, holding your breath keeps negativity lodged in your body.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #5. How Easy It Is to Heal Through Your Breath
(At least, according to the person who recommends this “survival tip.”)
To purify fear and pain, exhale stress and inhale calm.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #6. Visualize Wellness
Picture unwholesome emotions as a gray fog lifting from your body, and wellness as a clear light entering it.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #7. Act Fast. Meditate.
If you counter emotional or physical distress while at an event, act fast and meditate for a few minutes.
You can do this by taking refuge in the bathroom or an empty room. If it’s public, close the stall.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #8. Protect Yourself from Stressful People
Control how much time you spend listening to stressful people, and learn to say “no.”
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #9. Extra Protection Through Visualization.
A practical form of protection many people use, including health care practitioners with difficult patients, involves visualizing an envelope of white light around your entire body.
Empath’s Clarity Quiz #10. Handling the Extremely Toxic People
Or with extremely toxic people, visualize a fierce black jaguar patrolling and protecting your energy field to keep out intruders.
Have you noticed? Some of these questions are trickier than they first appear. So have fun with this quiz!
Clarity can make it much easier to sort through the huge amount of advice offered you as an empath. Granted, many of us think, “If it’s free, it can’t hurt.” But is that true, really?
Thanks for taking this quiz, Blog-Buddies. Answers will come in our next blog post, but meanwhile I’m so interested in learning your thoughts about all this.
