As reported in the New York Times in 2018:
“It was a clearinghouse of alternative health claims, sex-and-intimacy advice and probes into the mind, body and soul. There was no part of the self that Goop didn’t aim to serve.”
In 2008 Paltrow founded the company. By 2018, Goop was worth $250 million.
One Question about Goop Is Easy to Answer
What’s their most famous product? Perhaps you already know. Goop sells a candle that was expressly designed to smell like Gwyneth’s vagina.

For many years, she has been living in the Consciousness Lifestyle of Extreme Spiritual Addiction. These auras are uninspiring to research, so let’s not bother.
Instead, I’ll choose a photograph dating from her greatest success as an actor: “Shakespeare in Love.” In 1998, Gwyneth won an Oscar for that performance. I just linked you to a photo from when she so-gratefully accepted her trophy. That’s the best front-facing photo of Paltrow I’ve found, after searching for a reasonable amount of time.

What will we learn about the famous entrepreneur whose claim to fame is that–as some others put it–she has “commodified” spirituality? Treated spirituality like a product that people can buy from Goop.
Will you find Gwyneth’s chakra databanks to be spiritually inspiring?
Wisdom Seeker, allow me to introduce you to three Goop products that might be considered “spiritual”:
1. Psychic Vampire Repellent
The list and descriptions below are adapted from an article from Yahoo UK/Life. Edited here by Rose Rosetree.
If the threat of vampires seeps into your daily life, you might want to think about investing in some Vampire Repellent spray. The product promises to “banish bad vibes (and shield you from the people who may be causing them)”.
2. A Joint Holder
Believe it or not, Goop isn’t opposed to a bit of herbal healing, evidenced by the snazzy joint holder its peddling for £15. The description calls it “sleek and unassuming” product, perfect for storing “small essentials.”
3. The Silk Toothbrush
Goop urges its customers to buy L’Officine Universelle Buly’s Silk Toothbrush which comes with soft silk bristles and a tortoise shell acetate handle.
Incidentally, Did You Ever Think about the Term WELLNESS?
To many, this term is a hybrid of spirituality and health. According to an article from the University of North Dakota:
Spiritual wellness refers to the state of one’s overall well-being and connection to something greater than oneself.
It encompasses the search for meaning, purpose, and values in life, as well as the development of a sense of inner peace, harmony, and transcendence. Spiritual wellness is not limited to religious beliefs or practices but encompasses a broader understanding of the human spirit and its relationship to the world.
How many results right now on my Google for “Spiritual Wellness”? Want to guess?

Wisdom Seeker, are you surprised to learn this? Or did you think that “Wellness” was just a cool medical term for “Healthy”?
If you accept misleading names for things, will that help you as a consumer? Or as a seeker of truth?
What Does All This Goop Product Have to Do with Either
Wellness or Spirituality?
For the first (and I hope, only) time, I browsed a little at the Goop.com website. Oboy! When I searched on “Wellness,” a small number of products came up. This is the one I chose to see in detail, a triumph of “Wellness” advertising.
Yes, this product is a sleep mask. Its description touts:
“A checks-every-box sleep mask—with soothing vibrational therapy.”
Personally? I have no box to check for this product. Other than “Not interested.”
Wisdom Seeker, do you have a lavishly long list of checklist for purchasing a sleep mask?
Being a professional at Energy Spirituality ENERGY HEALING and also being the Founder of Energy Spirituality AURA READING, what’s my opinion of this product?
- There is no “vibrational therapy” in this sleep mask.
- The only “soothing” thing about it is that any sleep mask which fits comfortably, and darkens the room for you, could be called a “sleep mask.”
To Conclude this Introduction to Gwyneth’s Big Claim to Fame
Expensive Products that Cheapen
From what I’ve seen, Goop sells expensive products that cheapen aspirational language about health and wellness. According to this Brand Deep Dive:
[Around] 2014 doctors began to note that Goop’s “wellness” content had become increasingly radical — moving in the direction of what some called pseudoscience. The New York Times even claimed that Goop’s content was “no longer ludicrous — no, now it was dangerous.”
From potentially hazardous “snake oil” vaginal steaming to the wearable “Body Vibes” sticker which falsely claimed to “rebalance the energy frequency of our bodies”, Goop has promoted many unverified, untested remedies and products.
In 2017, Truth in Advertising, an independent advertising watchdog, even filed a legal complaint with California regulators citing over 50 health claims made by Goop. The results were a $145,000 settlement and a five-year injunction that prohibited the company from making “unsubstantiated, and therefore deceptive health and disease-treatment” claims about the benefits of its products.
Given What You’ve Read So Far, Do You Expect Me to
Find a Ton of Spiritual Consciousness in Ms. Goop?
Will my research uncover mostly Human Consciousness, or even Animal Consciousness? At the start of this article, I have no idea.
Do you expect me to find abundant Spiritual Consciousness? Since Goop products are supposed to be so very wellness-inducing?
For sure, all three Causational kinds of consciousness can be good. Or bad. Or mixtures. In addition, the quality of each chakra databank matters enormously.
Wisdom Seekers, now that this Causational kind of info is available, don’t you think it’s high time that we stopped believing in beauty illusions? Such as:
“Healthy People” will have only SPIRITUAL Consciousness?
With no possibility of experiencing mere HUMAN Consciousness. Or even ANIMAL Consciousness.
The truth is: Each of these three Causational ways of experiencing life is intimately connected to how a soul expression is evolving right now in this lifetime. Though all are valuable, they’re neither identical nor interchangeable.

With Gwyneth it’s not that she likes animals all that much. She just likes her fellow humans far less–except for what they can give her. For that reason, she tolerates them.
In Conclusion
Have any of you Wisdom Seekers ever seen Gwyneth Paltrow acting in a movie? Or have you watched her in any interviews pre-2008?
For example, do you remember her as having a strong presence? Or did she seem more like a person who was blank inside?
Blank inside. That’s mostly how I remember Gwyneth in Shakespeare in Love, a romcom set in the time of Shakespeare; and also in Sliding Doors, another romcom, from 1998.
In Hindsight
For me, what was the only interesting aspect of watching Paltrow perform in these movies. This was, mind you, evident only in hindsight:
Fairly often my mind would drift into noticing how “wonderfully” thin she was, and wishing that I too could be that “disciplined”and “beautiful.”

Hearing her talk, and watching her face! Especially before 2008, when she founded Goop. Because soon afterward, her consciousness lifestyle would shift.
